I’m so excited to share this fun campfire cupcakes recipe idea with you today in partnership with Lionsgate! Who is ready for some caveman fun? From the creators of Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit comes the next epic adventure for the ages! On February 16, catch Dug and the gang in EARLY MAN (Starring the voices of Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Maisie Williams, & Timothy Spall). Set at the dawn of time, when dinosaurs and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, EARLY MAN tells the story of how one brave caveman unites his tribe against a mighty enemy and saves the day!
Doesn’t it look fun?! The boys chuckled through the whole trailer when we saw it – they really loved the soccer aspect too (since all 3 of them play soccer). So, I was thrilled to team up with Lionsgate to make a fun recipe in celebration of the movie releasing soon! Inspired by all the cavemen around the campfire at the beginning of the trailer, I decided to make these fun campfire cupcakes!
EARLY MAN Campfire Cupcakes
- favorite chocolate cupcake recipe (or store bought)
- chocolate frosting (*if not already frosted)
- white frosting
- orange food coloring (or red & yellow)
- chocolate sandwich cookies (crushed to make crumbs)
- pretzel sticks
- *Optional for more decoration: red, yellow, or orange sanding sugar/ orange or red sparkly gel icing/ malted milk balls/ rock candy/
- chocolate candy bark or black decorating gel
- lollipop sticks if using the printable cupcake toppers
You’ll start the process by making (or buying 😉 ) your chocolate cupcakes and topping with chocolate frosting. The frosting does NOT need to be pretty and perfect for these because you’re going to cover them with “dirt”. You’ll just crush your chocolate sandwich cookies and roll the frosted cupcakes in those crushed crumbs to create dirt. Then, cut pretzel sticks to arrange a small “starburst” pattern for the base of the fire on the top of the cupcakes. You could also try to use rock candy or similar to create a rock fire pit effect. Then, on top of the arranged pretzel “logs”, pipe some orange frosting (a little colder is better so the frosting can stick up more like a flame). You can add some sanding sugar or sparkling gel frosting to add more of a fire effect too. You could leave it like that…or you can add some wood sticks around your campfire by placing more pretzel sticks in the cupcake. If you’re having an EARLY MAN party or want to do something a little less involved, you can just print our simple EARLY MAN cupcake toppers and then top with some “rocks” (rocky candy or malted chocolate milk balls) and some “sticks” (pretzel sticks). So easy and cute! They’d be a great treat right before or after seeing the movie as well.
