10 Valentine’s Day Children’s Books:

Junie B. Jones and the Mushy Gushy Valentime by Barbara Park and Illustrated by Denise Brunkus is sure to be a hit with most first graders.

I Love You, Dear Dragon by Margaret Hillert and Illustrated by Carl Kock is a great early reader book, with simple and familiar text for beginning readers. A Very Scary Valentine’s Day (Scooby-Doo Reader Series #29) by Mariah Balaban offers a little more reading challenge for young readers.

While Happy Valentine’s Day, Dolores by Barabara Samuels carries a lesson to be learned, 10 Valentine Friends by Janet Schulman is a holiday counting book.

My very young boys love Biscuit’s Valentine’s Day by Alyssa Satin Capucilli and Pictures by Pat Schories. They also like Corduroy’s Valentine’s Day by Lisa McCue. But, their favorite is Peek-A-Boo, I Love You! by Sandra Magsamen because at the very end, they get to see themselves in a little mirror!

My favorite is Henry and the Valentine Surprise by Nancy Carlson because I can totally relate to young children thinking that teachers have absolutely no life outside of school, and that we even sleep there!

Finally, Love, Splat by Rob Scotton is a lovely story involving cats and their special Valentine crushes.
