Hiccup, Toothless, and the whole Viking dragon crew are soaring into theaters for a third time in How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World on February 22nd. To celebrate, we’re sharing some fun dragon-inspired candy bark (and cute printables) with you today as part of a sponsored partnership with Universal Pictures.
Aren’t Toothless and the whole dragon crew are absolutely adorable?! We love these dragons so much! The characters in DreamWorks Animation’s How To Train Your Dragon franchise are some of our favorites! And it looks like we’re all about to meet another fun character when our beloved Toothless, the Night Fury, meets a beautiful Light Fury. Take a look at the trailer here:
It looks SO good! Our whole family absolutely cannot wait for this one. The boys LOVE this franchise SO much, so you can bet we’ll be in theaters opening weekend! To celebrate, I made this fun and tasty dragon candy bark. It’s perfect for a movie night or a How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World party!
Dragon Candy Bark
Our favorite Night Fury and the new discovery of a female Light Fury serve as inspiration for our fun dragon candy bark treat! The two really seem to compliment each other well!
So, we have the sparkly white, blues and purples represented for the Light Fury and black, blue sparkles, and some green to represent Toothless. The bark is super easy to make – you just need a few ingredients!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 bags (12 oz.) white candy melts
- 2 bags (12 oz) black or dark chocolate candy melts
- 1 bag (12 oz) green candy melts
- white sugar sprinkles
- icy blue sugar sprinkles
- purple sugar sprinkles
- black sugar sprinkles
- green sugar sprinkles
- 2 bags pretzel sticks
*Note – these ingredient amounts and instructions make a large batch, perfect for a party. If you’d like a smaller batch (like just for your own family), then prepare as directed on ONE cookie sheet using half for the Night Fury bark and half for the Light Fury. You’ll end up only needing about half of the ingredients that way as well.
Start by lining two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Spread pretzel sticks out on paper, trying to make a single layer. Make one version at a time.
Light Fury Candy Bark
Melt approximately 1.5 bags worth of the white candy coating. Spread over pretzels. Cover white candy coating with a combination of white & ice blue sugar sprinkles. Let cool and set (ideally in the refrigerator). While that sets, melt the remaining white candy melts. Drizzle that over the top of the set bark. Top with purple sprinkles and let set. Once set, shake off excess sprinkles and break into bark pieces.
Night Fury Bark
You’ll repeat the same process but with the other colors for the Night Fury version. Melt approximately 1.5 bags worth of the black/dark chocolate candy coating. Spread over pretzels. Cover dark candy coating with a combination black sugar sprinkles and a few sprinkles of the blue. Let cool and set (ideally in the refrigerator). While that sets, melt about 1/3 of the bag of the green candy melts. The green is almost the same color as Toothless’ eyes. Drizzle that over the top of the set bark. Top with green sprinkles and let set. Once set, shake off excess sprinkles and break into bark pieces.
How To Train Your Dragon Candy Bark Printable
What really helps make the candy bark even more fun is adding a themed printable with it. I mean what kid wouldn’t a little treat bag like this for a fun movie treat or party favor?! I’ve got the printable already for you, so all you’ll need to do is print, cut, and attach it to your treat bags. These are sized perfectly to use standard snack-sized baggies.

For best quality, I recommend printing on a slightly thicker paper and using a photo setting. Scale the image to 100% (not fit to page) for the most accurate size. Once printed, cut and attach to the baggie using double-stick tape. Just be sure to fill your baggies with the tasty bark first! 😉
You can see with the printables that you can make baggies with just Light Fury Bark, just Night Fury Bark, or you can do a mix of both with the candy bark topper!
Such a cute movie treat! So, grab your favorite dragon, make some tasty dragon bark, and take the family to see HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD in theaters, IMAX and RealD 3D February 22. Get tickets here: http://unvrs.al/DragonsTix. We cannot wait!
