Star Wars Jedi Training Birthday Party

Star Wars Birthday PartyIt’s no secret that there are some little (& big) Star Wars fans in our house. And, with our two oldest Padawan turning 5 & 8 (with birthdays just 1 day apart), we decided they were finally ready for an “out of this galaxy” Star Wars birthday party! They were SO excited to share the ways of the Force with their friends!  Star Wars Party _MomEndeavorsWe had SO much fun checking Pinterest & other blogs for fun ideas, browsing stores for the perfect Star Wars items (we were sent some fun items from Oriental Trading and purchased some fun things at various other places as well), and doing some fun Star Wars DIY projects in preparation for the party! With so many ideas, the hardest part I think was narrowing down what we were going to do! Besides with the new Star Wars movie (The Force Awakens) coming out, I have a feeling there might be more Star Wars parties in our future! So, here’s a look into our Star Wars party universe (with lots of pictures and links to ideas – some affiliate links included)!

Simple Indoor Star Wars Party Decor

Simple Star Wars Party DecorWhen you come to our house, you enter into the living room/dining room. We’ve got a lot of open space there, so I like to make sure we have decorations there to help set the tone for the party. We found some super fun removable Star Wars wall decals. The boys have requested a Star Wars room, so these doubled as part decoration and part present for their room decor once we start on their rooms. The giant ships and Star Wars characters were definitely fun on the walls! To add to the fun, we put out the boys’ Star Wars stuffed animals on the faux mantel, Then we covered a large framed photo with black poster board and I cut out the “Star Wars” from white card stock with my Cricut Explore–simple with a big impact! Star Wars Party FavorsThe favor table was also in that room. Black poster board with metallic pen works really well for simple signs at a Star Wars party! We found awesome Star Wars coloring books at the dollar store, so I couldn’t resist getting those for the kids (along with some Star Wars stickers and fruit snacks). But the really exciting party favors were a key part of the Jedi Training Academy fun! DIY Jedi Training TunicsEach young Padawan had their own simple Jedi Training tunics to wear for the party and boy were they excited about that!! And these were SO easy to make (DIY post directions coming soon)! The kids loved getting their very own Jedi outfits! Once everyone was suited up, we took the party outside for the Jedi Training Academy!

Outdoor Star Wars Party Decor

Star Wars Outdoor Party DecorWe loved that the weather was nice enough to have a lot of the party outside! It was perfect for setting up our little Jedi Training Academy and a little Star Wars photo booth! The large Star Wars cutouts made such a fun impact in the backyard – and were perfect for creating a fun photo booth! Oriental Trading sent us the stand-up characters along with perfect Star Wars Rebels birthday banner!  It was all a huge hit – everyone went crazy about the characters! And our little Rebels fans were thrilled with a special themed birthday banner! Star Wars Party Photo BoothTo add to the characters in our photo booth area, we used this Star Wars photo wall mural. It was perfect! The kids loved posing in front of the backdrop and the character cut-outs! We had various photo shoots there all night long. Star Wars Party PhotoBooth

Jedi Training Academy Party Activities

The real fun outside though was the Jedi Training Academy activities we put together! The games started by the young Padawan learners choosing a pool noodle light saber (those were a huge hit). Then, we had Jedi Master Parker teach the trainees some light saber skills. We did a little of the Disney Parks Jedi Training routine (so fun)! Jedi Training Party ActivityThen in true Jedi Training fashion, there was a disturbance in the Force!! Darth Vader found this Jedi Training facility and dropped in to try to turn our recruits to the Dark Side. Fight Darth Vader Star Wars PartyThis was such a hit! One of the kids actually got SUPER scared (we had a speaker outside and cued it to blast the Imperial March when Darth Vader came out. And, poor thing – she was scared to death and ran inside the house. Hahaha!). Everyone else though had a blast defeating the Sith Lord. And, the boys’ daddy sure was a good sport to do this! You certainly can buy a complete Darth Vader costume, but we decided to make our own! Get the directions here –> easy DIY Darth Vader Costume.

Jedi Obstacle Course

In addition to all the light saber fun, we also had a little obstacle course. Kids had to use their light sabers to try to keep some special Force orbs (balloons) in the air. Then, they also had to use their Jedi balance to stay out of the lava pit (red plastic table covers with stepping stones/rocks) and dodge the Stormtrooper blasts (red yarn on ground & between the trees). Star Wars Party Obstacle CourseSo fun! And then we ended the Jedi Training Course with the ultimate mission…destroy the Death Star!!!

Death Star Piñata

The boys were really interested in having a piñata, so we took a cue from some other Star Wars parties out there and went with a Death Star! It was REALLY easy to DIY (full directions coming soon) and the kids loved destroying it! Hahah! We filled it with Star Wars themed candy, Star Wars stickers/tattoos, and glow sticks! We even used some Duck Tape to have the bat look more like a light saber! Death Star Star Wars Pinata

Star Wars Party Food

Then, after all that Jedi training, we definitely had some hungry younglings! Making creative, themed party food is one of my absolute favorite things about parties. So, all the details about the Star Wars good will be found in another post (since this one is already WAY long). But, here’s some of the spread:

Star Wars Birthday CakeThe boys loved everything so much and I absolutely love doing these parties for them. I’m dreading the day where they are too old or too cool for these fun themed parties. They are a lot of work, but absolutely so much fun! We’re so thankful to be able to celebrate them with so many dear family & friends!

A very happy birthday to my sweet little 8 and 5-year olds! May the Force be with you always!
