In addition to thanking a teacher or making a donation to the Sandy Hook victims’ families, why not make some snowflakes?! The Connecticut PTSA is spearheading this wonderful way to craft for a cause on behalf of the Sandy Hook PTA: Snowflakes for Sandy Hook!!

When school resumes for Sandy Hook, it will be in a new building. Parent-volunteers want to ensure that the students are welcomed back by a winter wonderland with the entire school decorated with as many unique snowflakes as possible. So, please help the students of Sandy Hook have a winter wonderland at their new school! Get creative as no two snowflakes are alike!!
Please send your snowflakes to the Connecticut PTSA no later than January 12, 2013:
Connecticut PTSA
60 Connolly Parkway
Building 12, Suite 103
Hamden, CT 06514
What a beautiful and simple way to give back! I love that the whole family can be involved with this (whether or not your children know anything of the tragic events). My boys don’t know about what’s happened, but we’ll be making at least 26 snowflakes and sending them in! For older kids that know about the tragic events, it would be something tangible for them to do. If I was still teaching high school, all of my classes would be making them this week. But, since I’m not, the best I can do is share with all of you! I hope you’ll join us!!
If you need some snowflake ideas, here are a few difference ideas & tutorials:
All for the Boys has a great snowflake cutting & folding tutorial! Eight by five shares how to make coffee filer snowflakes!
And, if your kids are too little to use scissors (or you just want something fun & different to do), then make snowflakes with homemade “snow paint“!!
In addition to snowflakes, donations will be accepted indefinitely to the Connecticut PTSA “Sandy Hook Fund” to provide ongoing support to the community. Please send checks to the Connecticut PTSA address listed above. Group fundraising projects may include walk-a-thons, spirits days, pajama days, etc., which may be scheduled at your convenience.

Please pin this, share it, tell your friends, tell your teachers! Let’s make sure these devastated kids at least have a wonderfully decorated new school to start over again in!!

Absolutely, Carol! I want as many people as possible to know about this! Hopefully they’ll get SO many snowflakes that they won’t even be able to use them all!!

I had previously compiled a post with various ways to donate to the victims and families of Sandy Hook. I’ve gone back and included this! Thank you so much for posting about it! I’m hoping to start up a collection of night lights for the surviving children and am just waiting to hear back from the CTPTSA. You can find the post here: http://www.iloveyoumorethancarrots.com/2012/12/support-sales-donation-links-for-sandy.html Thank you again!

That’s wonderful! Enjoy spending time together participating in this! 🙂 Merry Christmas!
That boy at the top, holding the snowflake, put the biggest smile on face. 🙂 And makes me think of all the Sandy Hook children who will smile after seeing their winter wonderland…a lot of small things coming together to make a big difference after such a tragic time. Great post! We’ve already made some snowflakes this afternoon and we’ll continue this weekend!

We are having a very special “white” Christmas Eve making lots of special snowflakes. Thank you for giving me and my children a way to give to this hurting community.
That’s wonderful! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Hi.
Just came back to your site to get the mailing address to send our snowflakes.
Thank you for this terrific idea and we had a great family time experience while making these. Our teenage girls didn’t even take out their cell phones to reply to incoming text messages while we were working on these. <3
That’s so wonderful! Thanks for taking the time to stop by & let me know! Glad it was such a wonderful time with your family! I’m sure the little ones at Sandy Hook will love their winter wonderland!
we’ll be sending our snowflakes this week. =)
