All opinions are mine alone. #SamsungUnlocked #CollectiveBias It’s no secret that we love to travel. And capturing family travel memories through photography is hugely important to me (both as a mom and as a travel blogger)! That means having a great camera with me at all times is a MUST! While I have a fancy DSLR camera that I love to use, it’s not practical to have it with me all the time or on every type of trip. That’s why I need a phone that “does it all”, including taking great photos. And the camera capabilities on the Samsung Galaxy GS8 are amazing! We just took our first family travel road trip with our new device and it was SO great – all the utility of a smart phone with photography options that rival some DSLRs! So, we’re sharing why the GS8 is great for travel and highlighting some photography features/tips to help you capture your travel memories!
First up, let’s look at some basics – starting with an important one: The Samsung Galaxy S8 is unlocked! Unlocked by Samsung means that you can choose your carrier, data plan, services, features and apps, so you can get your phone exactly the way you want it.¹ I LOVE the flexibility of that, especially with traveling! With this phone, traveling internationally is SO easy – just pop in a compatible SIM card for the country your in and take your device anywhere.² YES! Buying the GS8 on Walmart.com was SO easy and convenient, shipped right to my house with FREE shipping! No dealing with cell phone stores, no headaches – SO easy!. You’ll also get extra peace of mind because all Unlocked by Samsung smartphones come with a standard U.S. limited warranty.³ As you can see, the Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8+ is available on Walmart.com too.
I ordered my new GS8 in Midnight Black and it arrived just a few days later. The whole process was SO easy! Plus, in addition to being unlocked, there are other great features like:
- The world’s first Infinity Screen– The Galaxy S8 expansive display stretches from edge to edge, giving you the most amount of screen in the least amount of space. (I LOVE this!!! It really makes what’s on the screen seem SO much bigger)
- Galaxy S8+ is even more expansive—biggest screen yet.
- Water Resistance– A phone that can handle a splash. With an IP68 water resistant rating, the phone can resist a splash or accidental dunk. (another plus when traveling)
- Expandable storage with microSD Card – The phone has room to grow by expanding storage (up to 256GB) with a microSD card. MicroSD card sold separately.
After setting it up (which didn’t take me long at all), I could wait to take it on a little trip to put its features to the test. And oh my goodness, the photography capabilities on such a small device – impressive! The GS8 offers a 12 megapixel rear-facing camera, an 8 megapixel front-facing camera, 4K video capabilities, and quite an impressive toolbox of extras, edits, filters, and more! Let’s take a look…
Samsung Galaxy S8 Camera Features & Tips
Built-in Filters – One feature I noticed right away are those fun extras with the camera. There are a whole variety of filters that you can use when you snap your photo to really capture the right mood for your shots! This was really easy to navigate while you take the shots and with the large infinity-edge screen, it was SO easy to view what I was shooting. Photo Overlays – Another fun extra with the camera is that there are some fun photo overlays that you can use in real-time as you shoot. As a memory keeper and scrapbooker, I think some fun “stickers” on photos can add to the memories or help tell the story of the moment. So, putting a fun overlay on the photo without having to go into an extra app is SO cool! Pro Mode – If you want to go a step beyond shooting in auto and using, you can use the camera in Pro Mode! Talk about getting close to a DSLR! Pro Mode gives you the option to adjust your manual settings like ISO, shutter speed, exposure value, color tone, manual focus, and white balance. I was impressed with the quality and ease of use on the device! Good in Low Light – One thing that really sets cameras apart is how well they do in low light situations (without using a flash, because – EW). In the past, I’ve found that a lot of smartphones don’t handle low lighting situations very well and things start looking grainy (or just too dark altogether). But, the GS8 performs great in low light thanks to its specs (the 12MP and F1.7 lens). I love the photos I got at sunset on the phone! Capture 4K Video & Photos at once!! Not only does the phone have great 4k video capability, but you can snap photos while recording video! Just tap the camera button on the right while recording and you can capture still shots as well! LOVE this! All these features and more, make the Samsung GS8 a GREAT device for travelers! We can’t wait to take this phone on more adventures!
