Mickey's Halloween Party at DisneylandWe just recently had SO much fun at Disneyland during Halloween Time. There’s so much fun to be had, but our absolute favorite thing was Mickey’s Halloween’s Party! The party does require a separate ticket, but I think it’s WELL worth attending! In fact, I REALLY want to try to make this an annual tradition with the boys. It was SO much fun! Here’s our top 10 list of reasons to attend…

1. COSTUMES!!!
For the party, everyone is allowed to dress in costume (with a few rules of course – so be sure to check on that before you go). Normally, Disneyland policy does not allow adults to dress in costume or clothing that can be viewed as representative of an actual Disney character. But, at Mickey’s Halloween Party, family-friendly costumes are allowed AND encouraged!! DIY Jake & the Never Land Pirates Family CostumesWe took full advantage of this and donned our Jake & the Never Land Pirates costumes as a family! It was SO fun to be dressed up together as some of our favorite Disney characters and everyone LOVED it! So many Disney cast members said something about our family costumes and Skully happened to get a lot of attention!

2. Trick or Treating
Trick or treating is super fun on it’s own, but trick or treating at Disneyland is awesome! There are multiple treat trails set up throughout the park (marked on the special Halloween Party map), with multiple stations at each trail. Trick or Treating at DisneylandThe added bonus is that everyone who wants to can trick or treat during the party and it’s GOOD candy – lots of name brand chocolate! But, there are also healthier options and allergy-safe options to choose from. We saw some things like kettle chips, crackers, Craisins, apple slices, etc. Our boys were having too much fun doing rides and other things to be interested in trick or treating much, but you could leave with A LOT of candy if you wanted to! 3. The Atmosphere
The ambiance is just absolutely SO cool – glowing pumpkins, Mickey ghosts, so many people dressed in costumes, fog coming off the water! The whole park just has such a fun, special vibe. Mickey's Halloween Party AmbianceThere definitely is a little spooky feel to it, but nothing is scary! It’s perfect for families and so fun to see Disneyland in a unique way! We especially loved the character pumpkins! Character Pumpkins at Disneyland

4. Cadaver Dans
Adding to the ambiance, is the awesome entertainment of the Cadaver Dans. You can find them performing in different areas of the park. We spotted them floating down a foggy Rivers of America signing from their candle-lit boat. 5. Monsters University Dance Party

And, speaking of fun entertainment…in Tomorrowland, you can bust a move with your favorite monsters at Mike & Sulley’s Monsters University Dance party. The boys LOVED this. Baby Brother wanted to be on the dance floor the whole time! Too bad we didn’t have our Monsters University family costumes from the year before- we would have fit right in! 😉 Monsters University Dance Party6. Halloween Screams Spooktacular Fireworks

Fireworks at Disneyland is one of my very favorite things and the special Halloween Screams show (only occurring on Mickey’s Halloween Party nights) certainly doesn’t disappoint. Jack Skellington serves as “Master of Scare-monies,” kicking off the festivities as his ghost dog Zero makes a special appearance in the sky above Sleeping Beauty Castle. There’s all sort of great spooktacular music (and fireworks of course). And then, throughout the night, the castle changes appearance to suit the music being played! Just another part of the awesome atmosphere & Halloween entertainment. Haunted Disneyland Castle
7. Halloween Carnival
The carnival is actually open (in Big Thunder Ranch) during the day as well. But, for Mickey’s Halloween Party, there is definitely some extra fun back there (like trick or treating and the Cadaver Dans). And, it’s a GREAT place for families with young kids – crafts, games, entertainment, special characters! The boys were content to spend quite a bit of time there! Disneyland Halloween CarnivalLook at how cute Duffy Bear is dressed in his pumpkin costume! We also met Woody & Jessie back there. But, I saw others got photos with Mickey & Minnie dressed in their Halloween best, as well as other characters. So, it’s definitely a great place to hang out during the evening!

8. Special Character Greetings & Photo Opps
There are places throughout the park to get special photos with your favorite characters – including some villains. Since this was our first time, we were so busy taking everything in that we sadly didn’t meet up with too many of the characters (outside of the carnival). Given our outfits, we were REALLY REALLY hoping to get photos taken with Captain Hook. But, we didn’t end up seeing him (and it’s totally my fault). One thing I really overlooked (and am so bummed about) is that I didn’t check the special Halloween Party map for character greeting spots – MAJOR fail on my part. Had I read that map, I would have seen exactly where to go to get photos with Hook! 🙁 So, if there are particular characters you really want to see, be sure to check out your map and/or ask a Disney cast member to help! Even with that major fail on my part, we still saw quite a few fun characters (like the ones mentioned above AND Stormtroopers who stormed right by us over in Tomorrowland).

9. Villains Square

Before you head out for the night, be sure to hang out for a bit in Disneyland Town Square where the villains take over! Riding in on a black horse-drawn carriage, these “Bad Apple Party Crashers” hit the square in a thunderous way – complete with thunder, fog, & special effects. You’ll see characters like Cruella De Vil, the Queen of Hearts, The Evil Queen, Jafar, and Lady Tremaine from “Cinderella”. Villains Square at DisneylandWe happened to be sitting there (not expecting anything to happen) when the villains took over the square and put on a special “good night performance”. Super fun!

10. Little to NO wait time on MANY rides!!!

There are so many special things to enjoy (everything I listed above), that it seemed like VERY few people were riding rides. The two special Halloween attractions – Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy – were the notable exceptions. Lines for these rides (which are indeed awesome) were quite long, but others were very short. We basically walked right on to Snow White, Pirates, Astroblasters, The Carousel, and more! Buzzlightyear AstroblastersSo, if you’re interested in doing rides, you can definitely take advantage of some serious ride time during the party!!

Just know though that there is almost NO way you are going to be able to do every single thing at the party because there is just SO much awesomeness to do & see. So, pick your favorites & must-dos from the list, then just take it all in. We seriously had a BLAST though and can’t wait to go back next year! Mickey's Halloween Party

Disclosure: My family attended a special Mickey’s Halloween Party press event. We were provided with complimentary admission, as well as other Disney fun surprises. However, all opinions, love of Disneyland, and photographs are entirely our own!
