As part of the #MoanaEvent Disney press trip I attended last month, we had the pleasure of visiting the set of a couple ABC TV shows, including Dr. Ken and Speechless (you can see the details of our Speechless visit & meeting Minnie Driver here)Seeing the sets and getting a better feel for the process of how these shows are actually created is always interesting! Meeting the cast on set is always fun too, as there is a more relaxed feel than a formal press junket. Since Dr. Ken is a comedy, it’s probably no surprise that there was a pretty fun vibe on the set.

Doctor turned actor/comedian Ken Jeong plays Dr. Ken, a brilliant physician with no bedside manner. He is always trying to be a good doctor, as well as a good husband and dad to his two kids. Luckily, his therapist wife Allison is just the right partner to keep things sane.”  Dr. Ken airs Fridays at 8:30 PM on ABC!

When we first arrived, we had some time to wander around the set a bit and check things out. We saw the hospital area, an exam room, and then the house which was the living room and kitchen primarily. It’s always fun looking at the little details – like what’s on the walls, the desks, etc. dr-ken-abc-setWhile we were poking around, various cast members came out to chat with us. Tisha Martin-Campbell came out first and was SO sweet. She took the time to meet each and every one of us – shaking hands, asking where we were from and what our blog names were. LOVED that! Everyone was so gracious about taking photos, chatting and just having a little fun! dr-ken-tisha-martin-campbellWe then headed up to where the live studio audience would sit for show tapings and we got to talk to the entire main cast. They seem like they really have GREAT chemistry! As someone with a science background, what I find particularly interesting about the show was learning that not only is Ken a doctor (which I knew), but so is real-life wife! He and his wife are friends with the medical consultant for the show. So, even amidst all the funny comedy bits, the medical stuff on the show is all based in truth – and I love that. You can tell Ken takes his job seriously. I’m used to seeing him in very comedic roles, so to see his seriousness in real life was interesting! dr-ken-cast-interviewAnd the whole cast seemed really excited about tonight’s episode which will have some really serious tones – but also some big, fun/heart-warming moments! So, if you like medical shows, but aren’t already watching Dr. Ken – be sure to tune in on Friday nights!
