For the opening of Monsters University, as part of a sponsored campaign with Collective Bias, I have a monstrous fun Mike Wazowski green smoothie drink to share with you today!! It’s a simple craft & recipe all-in-one and is sure to be a hit with the kids! Nothing beats a monster drink that is super fun, but healthy too! To make your own Mike Wazowski healthy monster smoothie drink, you’ll need:
- Clear plastic cups
- white vinyl (or white circle stickers)
- green and black or brown permanent markers (I used Elmer’s Painters pens)
- approx 1 C almond milk
- about 1/2Â C apple juice
- about 1/2 C canned pineapple chunks
- 1 apple (we used granny smith to keep everything green)
- 1 banana
- 2 small kiwi
- 2 small handfuls of washed, fresh spinach
- 2 handful of ice cubes
- blender
To make your own DIY Mike Wazowski cups, you just need to add a large white circle sticker/vinyl to the clear plastic cups. I cut 1.5″ inch circles out of vinyl on my Cricut. Put the white circles on the cups. Then, use your permanent markers to draw in Mike’s iris and pupil. I should have made the pupils a bit bigger, but they still worked! 😉 Now, on to making the smoothie… Really, you could use any green smoothie recipe you like or experiment with your own concoction. But, the ingredients we used worked out really well (and gave us a good green color)!
Just dump all the ingredients (except for the ice) into the blender and have it run until the spinach looks well broken down. Then, add the ice and blend again. The amounts listed above yielded about 48 ounces!!
Then, poor the smoothie into the “Mike” cups. To get the best effect, fill up the cups just about as full as they’ll go! Â
The kids seriously LOVED these! I know some kids (and even adults) can be kind of “iffy” about eating green things or having green drinks. But, I bet if you serve them up like this, they’ll drink it right up! Since it’s chock-full of fruits and veggies, it’s a great healthy snack!
The fun didn’t stop there though! Once I had this idea, my mind started spinning with lots of monstrous fun! Big Brother and I had the pleasure of seeing Monsters University at an advanced screening (you can read our full movie review here) and we loved it! So, we ended up having a little Monsters-inspired play date to celebrate the movie opening (we can’t wait to take Daddy & Little Brother)! Any excuse for a fun themed party around here is a good one!
This little Monsters party was seriously SO easy to put together!! It would be great to do this for some special family fun before or after going to see Monsters University! ALL of those great monster-themed items were found at Walmart (with the exception of the stuffed animals that we already had)! You can view my entire shopping experience here to see the amazing amount of Monsters merchandise out there. The boys and I ended up turning it into a game to see how much Monsters stuff we could find! And, boy did we find some fun stuff!! As part of our shop, the big boys each got to pick out a new toy (they settled on the Mike & Sulley figurines). Then, we also picked up some Monsters University cups, Monsters fruit snacks, Monsters Cheez-Its, Monsters University plates & tablecover, stickers, and monster juice from Juicy Juice!
In addition to our fun monster drinks, you can see we had some other fun foods too! Full recipes & details for those are coming soon! 😉 I think the table looked so fun! The kids loved it! We had our fun treats while watching Monsters,Inc. and then did a fun monster craft (full details coming on that soon too)!
After all of our fun was over, we entered the Juicy Juice Monster-Sized Sweepstakes with the special code found on the containers we bought. So, far we’ve just done one (and won a Collector’s Card). But, there are lots of fun prizes to be had – like a trip to Pixar Studios! How amazing would that be?!! Kids will LOVE the Monsters character juice boxes and it’s fun to have the chance at prizes too. And, for more on Monsters University, follow Disney-Pixar on twitter and facebook.Â
Are YOU excited about Monsters University? Would YOUR kids love some Monster green smoothies?!
