Need a fun football treat for your next game-watching party or tailgate? These cupcake push-up pops are easily portable and can be customized for a WHOLE bunch of different teams depending on your team colors! We went with red velvet cake & cream cheese frosting since our HUGE Nebraska Cornhusker colors are scarlet and cream! It was a perfect color (and flavor) combination. But, with a little food coloring variations, you really could do just about any team!
Ours were of course all about the red & white! And, I happen to think they look ADORABLE all set up on the table with other Nebraska football fun items (and lots of other red & white)! To make these (whether Nebraska-style or for your own team), obviously you will need some push-up pop containers. I ordered mine on Amazon (affiliate link) here –> push-up pop containers. They’re not super cheap, but we’ve reused ours quite a few times (just wash them up and you’re good to go).
Making the pops can be a little more time consuming than regular cupcakes, but there’s nothing difficult about it. If you have a mini muffin/cupcake pan, I recommend using that. I don’t so I just made a regular batch of cupcakes (which yielded about 2 dozen). I used the rim of the container to cut through the cupcakes to get the layers. Doing it this way leaves you with a lot of scraps, but you can always use those to make football cake pops! 🙂 For each pop then, you just layer with cake and frosting. You can top the frosting with a few sprinkles too if you want. Then, put the lid on and the pops are ready to go.
I decided they needed a little more pizzazz though. So, I created a few “cupcake topper-style” printable labels. Only, with these, I put the labels on the side of the container instead (just using pieces of double-stick tape). If you’re a fellow Husker fan (YAY- GO BIG RED)…feel free to download the printable file below (for personal use only).
