Last weekend we had a super fun Nebraska football tailgate party and made a an awesome football version of a family favorite 7-layer dip. And, today, I’m sharing the directions for that with you while I’ll actually BE at the Nebraska game! It’s against Penn State and we can’t wait!!! 🙂
- refried beans
- shredded cheese
- diced fresh tomatoes
- chopped lettuce
- sliced black olives
- sour cream
- salsa
- guacamole
Directions:
Note: First off, I didn’t put amounts above because it greatly depends on what size container you’re making this in. Historically, my mom has used a texas sheet cake pan. The one pictured was actually in a broiler pan. So, you’ll just want to make sure you have a fair amount of the ingredients. There are also a TON of possible variations you can do like green chiles (diced), ground beef, chopped green onions, diced jalapenos, etc. But, we tend to like things a little less spicy.
To make, essentially you just layer the ingredients. To make the football version, we started by smoothing out the beans on the bottom of the pan. Then, sour cream, salsa, shredded cheese, tomatoes & diced olives, lettuce, and finally topped with guacamole.
To get the yard lines & hash marks, you just pipe on sour cream. To do that, we just globbed some sour cream in a baggie & cut the corner off. Super easy! I was actually pleasantly surprised at how nicely the sour cream piped!
Then, of course, if you happen to randomly have some football cake decorating items like my mom had (which had a copyright date of 1974 on the bottom!!!!), then you can add those to your football field 7-layer dip. It makes a great food centerpiece for a tailgate party!
Now it’s your turn!!!…

Thank you so much for this great idea! We had a last minute Superbowl party and I used your idea for my nacho dip. I’ve posted about it and linked to your post to give you credit. Everyone loved it and thought it looked awesome!
