This easy-to-make summer cheese board is the ultimate kid-friendly platter that the whole family will love (sponsored by Frigo® Cheese Heads®). Who else loves a delicious cheese board? It’s one of my favorite things to do for entertaining. But, it also happens to be one of our family’s favorite meals, especially during the summer! The thought of heating up the kitchen during the summer is usually less than appealing to me (especially when it’s regularly well over 100°F here in the Arizona desert). So I love to have fresh, no-cook options as often as possible. This is where a tasty cheese board comes in— or “platter dinner,” as my kids like to call it!
Isn’t it pretty? That’s one of the things I love about creating a cheese board (or platter dinner 😉 ) – it can have the look of something fancy and special without being full of “fancy” ingredients. Many cheese boards have all kinds of special charcuterie, aged cheese, and other more-refined items or expensive ingredients. But it doesn’t have to be like that at all. You can create a beautiful board, pretty enough to serve at any party or gathering, while still being kid-friendly and great for the whole family!
Easy Cheese Board Ingredients
We regularly keep Frigo® Cheese Heads® Cheese products in the house for convenient snacks and easy recipes (like these Caprese Skewers and Sandwich Kabobs). And they are also perfect for including in a lovely cheese board like this. For this platter, we used what I already had in the fridge: Frigo® Cheese Heads® String Cheese, Frigo® Cheese Heads® Sharp Cheddar & Beef Sticks, and Frigo® Cheese Heads® Colby Jack & Turkey Sticks. But just about any of their products would be GREAT on a platter like this. I think the Frigo® Cheese Heads® Wisconsin Snacking Cheeses would be especially DELICIOUS too—like Frigo® Cheese Heads® Fresh Gouda Wisconsin Snacking Cheese. YUM! You can check out the full Frigo® Cheese Heads® product line here!
Since the products are already in perfect stick size, all you need to do is just slice them into smaller, bite-sized pieces to go on your cheese board! SO easy! And to spruce up the board a bit, I decided to take the string cheese pieces and wrap them with pepperoni slices (held together with a small toothpick). It’s a quick and easy way to create some variety and color on the board!
Really, your options for a cheese board are almost limitless. Once you’ve settled on your meat and cheese options, you’ll want to add items of varying colors, textures, and flavors to the board by selecting assorted fruits, vegetables, nuts, crackers (or “crunchy stuff”), dips, etc. Since this is a summer board, I wanted all cold, fresh, and specifically summer seasonal choices. But really, you can choose any finger-type foods you like. Here are the additional ingredients I chose for this summer platter:
- Fresh summer berries (strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries)
- Small dill pickles
- Cucumber slices
- Grape Tomatoes
- Cashews
- Assorted crackers/chips
- Ranch dip
Perfect Summer Platter
All the colors and flavors make it absolutely perfect for summer! We especially love it for entertaining summer nights spent around the pool — something that people of all ages will enjoy! The kids absolutely couldn’t resist diving into this one! So, make a plan to put together a tasty kid-friendly cheese board for your next gathering or even just a fun, easy dinner at home!
