In addition to the #DisneyPlanesPremiere and #LittleMermaidEvent that Disney invited for me to come out to Hollywood for (full disclosure – it was an expenses paid trip), we were also celebrating the release of newest title in Disney’s “Buddies” franchise– Super Buddies (releasing on Blu-Ray & DVD August 27th). The boys love the Buddies, so they were pretty excited to hear about a new movie coming out–and, especially a super hero one at that! While I was in LA for the event, I not only got to learn a little about the film, but I got to meet Rosebud!
Oh.my.goodness, all! Talk about cute…and obedient…and utterly lovable! I think just about all of us there would have loved to put Rosebud in our bag and take her home! I may have come back and asked Mr. Mom Endeavors if we could get a Golden Retriever puppy! 😉 Just look at that adorable face!
It was really neat to see the trainer working with Rosebud in action to pose for pictures and such. We learned some fun facts about your favorite 4-legged Disney stars! The puppies who star in the Buddies movies start a “Buddy Bootcamp” at 8 weeks old. Their training camp lasts for two weeks and then they get their moment to shine! Depending on their size, the pups get to star on camera from 10 weeks to 14 weeks, when they are forced into an early retirement (due to changes in size and appearance by that age)! 😉 Filming on the movies usually takes a few months and there are multiple dogs that play each role. So, over the course of a Buddies movie, anywhere from about 20-30 different adorable pups played one of your favorite “Buds”. I loved listening to the trainer’s love for these pups and seeing him work in action. And, boy would I love to be on the waiting list of people who gets to take one of these retired, well-trained Buddies home! Oh my!
About the movie…
An ordinary day at Fernfield Farms turns extraordinary when Budderball, Mudbud, B-Dawg, Buddha and Rosebud discover mysterious rings that grant them each a unique super power. Before you can say, “Buddies, assemble,” the pups unleash their amazing abilities and race to the rescue when a shape-shifting bully from outer space threatens the planet. But can they succeed in kicking major tail without revealing their new secret identities? ‘SUPER BUDDIES’ proves when you use your wits and work together, you don’t need super powers to be a super hero!
Our thoughts…
It has cute puppies and super hero powers. So, needless to say, the boys absolutely loved it. Since we got our review copy, they have asked to watch it daily. They love the Buddies anyway, but add in some super powers and it’s super excitement around here for the new Buddies movie. We’re not ready to have the boys watch “the real” super hero movies (like Super Man, The Avengers, Iron Man, etc.). So, Super Buddies is perfect for us! It allows the boys to have a fun super hero movie experience without some of the more adult content and violence that I don’t want them exposed to yet. For young kids, the alien bully in this latest Buddies installment could be a bit scary. But, otherwise, there’s nothing too concerning for young kids. If your kids like any of the other Buddies movies, then they are sure to love this!
Disney’s ‘SUPER BUDDIES’ hits stores on August 27, 2013! Look for it on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD.
Are YOUR kids fans of the Buddies?
