What’s your favorite Disney treat? For holidays, Disney Parks rolls out all kinds of fun themed twists on classic park treats. And, Halloween is no exception!! During a press trip to Halloween Time at Disneyland and Mickey’s Halloween Party, we had the pleasure of checking out quite a few of the special Halloween Time treats. Aren’t they cute?
That little table spread shows just a small sampling of the Halloween treat fun you can find at Disneyland! We of course had to do some fun sampling there – and the boys picked out one of the Mickey pumpkin “crisped rice” treats to share for something a little special! Well, fast forward a few weeks and the boys are already asking when we’re going back to Disneyland! 😉 We don’t have a trip planned any time soon. But…that doesn’t mean we can’t have some Disneyland magic at home. With just a little time & few supplies, you can make Mickey Pumpkin Rice Krispies treats at home!!
Here’s what you’ll need to make 4 treats:
– 1/4 C butter
– 1 bag mini marshmallows (about 6 cups)- Rice Krispies cereal (about 6 cups)
– orange sanding sugar
– white candy bark/coating
– chocolate candy bark
– large Mickey cookie cutter (*affiliate link)
– popsicle sticks
You’ll start the process by making a batch of Rice Krispies treats. I wanted mine thicker like the ones at Disneyland. So, I put one batch in a 9×9 pan. I spread everything out in the pan to get a nice even layer. Once cool, I used the large Mickey cookie cutter to get the Mickey head shape (I could get 4 from one batch) and insert popsicle sticks into the bottom of the heads (use a little melted chocolate to help stick if needed). Then, melt some white candy coating (I used 3 chunks and I always melt in the microwave). To make things easier for dipping, I just poured the melted “white chocolate” on my silpat. Then, I dipped one side of the Mickey head treats in the melted candy coating. Immediately after, dip the coated Mickey head in orange sanding sugar (which I just spread out on a paper plate).
Once the base of the pumpkin head is done, all that’s left to do is pipe on the face. You’ll need to melt your chocolate for this. The trick for making it look good is making sure that you are dealing with a very small piping tip (or a very small cut in the corner of a baggie) and that the chocolate is slightly cooled. If the chocolate is still too hot or your piping tip is too wide, the face will get a little “blobby” (which is what happened in some places on these). To keep things as Disney Parks-authentic as possible, I used my photo from the event as a guide and piped on my chocolate to make the jack-o-lantern face.
The kids were SO excited about these! Baby Brother squealed and exclaimed, “Me Mow”! 😉 So cute! I could barely even get the photos taken without little hands all over the treats! So these were definitely treat and a very easy way to have a little Disney magic at home!
