Has the flu hit your area hard this year? It's definitely that time of year and unfortunately, it is here in Arizona in full force. In fact, just a couple of weeks ago, cases of the flu here were up by 50%! And, the H1N1 strain seems to be particularly nasty this year, landing many in the hospital (and even just recently took the life of a young Arizona attorney). After our medical crises this past fall that included two hospitalizations, I'm desperate to avoid anything serious. So, we've been much more conscious this cold & flu season about wanting everyone to stay healthy. Here's a 4-step process of cold & flu prevention tips…Cold & Flu Prevention Tips
1. Ask about a flu shot
2. Wash and sanitize hands regularly
3. Wipe down surfaces with powerful disinfectants
4. Purify the air indoors

The boys and I all got flu shots in the fall on the same day! And, we try to be good about hand washing & disinfecting. But, I have never even considered an air purifier! According to the Fellowes 2014 Cold and Flu Report, half (46%) of Americans are somewhat or very concerned about getting sick during cold and season. And while 60 percent of survey respondents encourage frequent hand washing with soap and water and nearly half (40%) frequently clean surfaces in the home using a disinfectant 13% actually use an air purifier as part of their cold and flu prevention arsenal. Considering how much time people spend indoors this time of year (and how polluted that indoor air can be), adding in an air purifier to our cold & flu prevention strategy seems like a smart thing to do.

So, I'm excited to have a chance to check out the Fellowes AeraMax™ DX-55 Air Purifier. Fellowes® AeraMax™ Air Purifiers claim to be very effective at removing influenza and cold viruses from indoor air. They use true HEPA filters that safely remove 99.97% of airborne particles, including viruses, germs, dust, mold, pollen, ragweed, pet dander and cigarette smoke. I'm excited to see how it works (we have SO much dust here) and hear it has some fancy touch screen technology and automatic sensors.

I'll be reviewing the purifier and give you the full details in another post. If you want to check one out in the meantime, the Fellowes AeraMax DX55 starts at $189.99 at BestBuy.com.
