For our big family trip to Disney World for the Disney Social Media Moms conference, Big Brother ended up missing 5 days of school (a few days from two different weeks). Since he’s only in Kindergarten (and half-day at that) and his teacher was wonderfully understanding about the whole thing, we didn’t have a lot of work to take with us. So we opted to do a travel journal to at least keep up on a bit of reading & writing practice while we were away. Even if you don’t do the whole journal while on the trip, finishing it up once you get back can still be valuable for the kids. Not only is it great writing practice, but it’s a great way for them to remember the trip! Kids Travel JournalWe made some notes while on the trip, but honestly, most days Big Brother was so exhausted at night that we couldn’t really do a lot. So, we put most of it together when we got home. You can make a travel journal as plain or fancy as you want. We kept things pretty simple. Elmer's Naturals Glue

  • Paper (lined or copy)
  • simple 2-pocket folder
  • hole pounch
  • pen/pencil
  • printed pictures/embellishments
  • Elmer’s Naturals glue
  • Twine or ribbon

To make our journal, I just hole punched multiple pages of white paper inside a simple two pocket folder. Big Brother wrote his title of “my Disney World Journal” on the front. Then, he used the new Elmer’s Naturals glue to attach a little something from Walt Disney World. To make things more fun and visual, we attached some at-home printed pictures on the inside pages as well. Elmer's Naturals GluestickOn the pages, I wrote sentence prompts and fill-in-the-blanks. We had pages for each day of our trip. Then, we included a few pages at the end about his favorite picks! It was so fun to see that Big Brother knew exactly what his favorites were! 🙂 Walt Disney World JournalThe journal was a simple project, but something that Big Brother really enjoyed making. The best part was that it was good writing practice for him, but he didn’t even mind the writing. He was just so excited to make the journal. The final step was just tying some twine through the holes to make a simple book! An easy, yet educational and meaningful project!

Do your kids make travel journals?

Since I was sent the Elmer’s Naturals glue to try out, we decided to use it on this project and it worked great. The Elmer’s Naturals gluesticks are made with 88% all-natural ingredients. Plus, the containers are made from 25% post-industrial recycled plastic. So, it’s definitely a more eco-friendly adhesive. And, it’s a win-win, because it worked great! For a little more fun, Elmer’s is currently having a Elmer’s “Pin to Win” Sweepstakes. You could win an Elmer’s Naturals prize back and a $100 gift card!
