In the early school years, letters & words are a big focus of the school day.  Letter recognition, sight words, spelling words, reading fluency, etc – they’re all integral parts of the reading curriculum.  In Kindergarten, Little Brother is starting with some letter recognition activities and will soon move on to sight words. Then, in 1st & 2nd grades, Big Brother had a spelling test each week, plus sets of 100 sight words. So, a spelling word/sight word snack is great to have ready after school! Spelling Words SnackWith some Alpha-Bits cereal, this was SO easy! Just make some celery sticks with peanut butter (for those with allergies, you could always use other nut butters, coconut butter, or even cream cheese). Then, add some of the Alpha-Bits letters to make spelling words, sight words, or simple words to read! Fun Reading SnackLove this! It’s a simple after-school snack that allows the kids to practice reading skills in a fun way! The boys thought this was a really great snack! Big Brother even likes going through the cereal now to see if he can find things to spell himself!  IMG_8654This would also be great for putting in school lunches! You could even make a little “love you” note! 😉
