Nothing says summer like fun barbeques, picnics, and get togethers with family and friends! For us, grilling comes to mind for summer cooking. In fact, I have a whole roundup of delicious grilled recipes perfect for summer! Burgers, hotdogs, brats, grilled chicken, salads, corn-on-the-cob! YUM!! This was dinner last night: Smoked brats & corn on the cobOne of our favorite summer cookout recipes is grilled beer brats with grilled corn on the cob! But, nothing on that plate is grilled. It’s actually smoked! Prior to this weekend, we’ve never smoked anything before. But, Masterbuilt asked if I’d be interested in trying out one of their Digital Electric Smokers and I was super eager to try it! Mr. Mom Endeavors has gotten into it too…we definitely have a new summer toy! Masterbuilt Electric SmokehouseMasterbuilt sent us the Masterbuilt Electric Digital Smokehouse and it is so easy to use!! We have no prior experience, yet we were up & cooking with this in just a few hours! It’s much easier to use than a grill because you don’t have to constantly monitor the food. You just set the temperature on the smoker, pop in the wood chips and food, then let it do it’s thing! Seriously, the smell in our backyard yesterday was beyond amazing!! Digital Electric SmokehouseThis Masterbuilt smokehouse has some great features like an integrated control panel with blue LED display for easy viewing in direct sunlight, built-in radio frequency remote, meat probe and FULL foam insulation to keep heat in. I love the window in it too so you can see what’s going on! We were so impressed with how easy it was to use. If you can use an oven with a digital display, then you can use this smoker! 😉

Thanks to the “Dadgum That’s Good” Smoking, Grilling, and Frying Cookbooks by John McLemore, we were able to find some great recipes to try! If you’re interested, be sure to click the link for more information on the cookbooks (and a chance to win them until 5/31)! Since we were short on time for our first smoking endeavor, we decided on John’s recipe for “Haute Dogs” and smoked corn on the cob! It was super easy! We followed the instructions for soaking the corn and rubbing with olive oil. Then, a few hours later we had smoked brats, corn, and we even threw on some hot dogs for good measure! 😉

Smoked Corn on the CobSmoked brats & cornAs per the recipe directions, we used hickory chips. The smell was divine, but the taste was a bit strong for me. So, I’m excited to try some other chips as well. At Lowe’s yesterday we found apple, cherry, and pecan (in addition to the hickory and mesquite). Hello, yum! So, we are going to have fun experimenting! The next thing we’re going to try is smoked pork butt! Seriously, some smoked bbq pulled pork sandwiches sound SO good! 1. This is a great little smoker. Keeps a fairly constant temperature. It will fluctuate about 5 degrees higher or lower than your set temperature. Chip loader works great. This was my first smoker so I wish this smoker would have came with instructions for cleaning. Otherwise I have no complaints about how it cooks.

  2. We have a Masterbuilt electric smoker, and we just did ribs, pork loin, beef loin, turkey breast, and sweet potatoes for a 2 day Easter Feaster….. Great results with the smoker as usual. I usually clean ours with a 50/50 mixture of cider vinegar and hot water. We love to smoke burgers with velveeta in the center, Juicy Lucy style. Brats are next on our list. thanks for the info..
