Homemade Dog Treats – The Secret Life of Pets Movie Night

We love animated films and another one just hit stores – The Secret Life of Pets with 3 Mini Movies is now on Blu-ray & DVD! With a dog at home (who has been known to bfind trouble when we’re not home), The Secret Life of Pets was especially funny for us. So, we’ve partnered with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment to celebrate the release of the movie with some homemade dog treats and movie night fun! Secret Life of Pets Movie NightWhat could be more perfect for a movie about pets than including your pet in the movie night fun? Our Sadie dog is a total couch dog anyway, so she’s all for a movie night! The boys love movie nights too. Since we included her this time and the movie is about pets, we thought some homemade dog treats were definitely in order for our The Secret Life of Pets movie fun! secret-life-of-pets-dog-treatsSO fun, right?! The dog treats are PERFECT to go with The Secret Life of Pets, which  is a good film for the whole family to enjoy! Here’s some details:

Ever wonder what your pets do when you’re not home? From the humans behind Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets is a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. The new release features nearly an hour of bonus content, including three hilarious mini-movies: the all-new Norman Television and Weenie PLUS Mower Minions which debuted in theaters and is now available to own. The all-star voice cast includes Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Steve Coogan, and Albert Brooks will have you luaghing with all the crazy animal antics! max-secret-life-of-petsOur dog, Sadie, is often up to her own crazy antics! Like many real-life pets and like we see with Duke and Max in The Secret of Pets, our time with her hasn’t been all smooth-sailing. We’ve had our share of issues since adopting her from the shelter 8 years ago this Christmas, but I think our lives (and especially the boys’ lives) are richer for having her! It helps that she’s really cute! 😉 australian-cattle-dog-mixSo, to add to our family movie night, I made her some doggie movie treats to enjoy! With just 4 ingredients, these are SO easy to make and perfect for a fun treat to give your furry friend. They’re easy enough that the kids can help do a lot of it! Just be sure to check with your veterinarian if you have concerns or questions before making homemade treats for your own dog! Homemade Dog TreatsHere’s the easy recipe:

Your dog will love these easy treats, made with just 4 simple ingredients
Author:
Recipe type: Pet Food
Serves: 2-5 dozen
Ingredients
  • 2 C whole wheat flour
  • ¾ C natural peanut butter
  • ¾ C chicken broth/stock
  • 2 large eggs
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats (silpat).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, stock, and peanut butter. Stir by hand (or with electric mixer) until well-combined. Slowly start stirring in flour, mixing until everything is incorporated well together.
  3. On a floured surface with a floured rolling pin (the dough can be rather sticky), roll out the dough. Use cookie cutters or a knife to cut desired shapes and sizes. Place cut shapes on prepared sheets.
  4. Bake 20-25 minutes (until just starting to become golden brown).
  5. Cool completely before storing or feeding to your pet. Keep in an air-tight container in the refrigerator (you can also freeze these).
Notes
The amount of treats you'll get really depends greatly on the size you make them. I did rather small shapes. But, you can make them bigger if you'd like - especially for large dogs!

Homemade Doggy TreatsShe LOVES these little treats! In fact, she loves them so much she ended up eating the whole bowl (not planned) right off the table as I was doing my photo shoot for the movie night. LITTLE STINKER! So, they’re definitely a hit with MY dog! Just be sure that you don’t walk away from the table if you’re serving these up to yours – as they might disappear! 😉 Here’s what our little movie night set-up looked like:secret-life-of-pets-partyWe kept it simple with popcorn for human treats and our homemade dog biscuits for pet treats! A movie night or little party doesn’t have to be overly involved or stressful. Just a little set-up like this can really add to the fun! The boys LOVED the idea of Sadie having a special treat too! And then we got cozy on the couch and had some movie night fun! movienight

So, bring home The Secret Life of Pets on Blu-ray/DVD and plan a movie night with your own family (and pets)!!

I’m sure my dogs would love these and I’d much rather make them than buy treats! At least I’d know what’s in them!
