Need a fun craft to keep the kids busy on a rainy day, a fun pirate-themed birthday party favor, or just some good ‘ole imaginative dress-up play fun to go with Disney shows like Jake and the Never Land Pirates or Sword and the Stone? Then, you HAVE to make some DIY swords! We made these for the boys’ Jake and the Never Land Pirates birthday party and they have held up surprisingly well (almost a month now)!
This project really couldn’t be easier! You might even have all the supplies at home already. If not, a quick trip to a hardware store and you’ll have just about everything you need. Just a quick note though…most hardware stores won’t just give you a bunch of paint stir sticks. But, they may let you buy some at a nominal fee (it might depend on the specific manager/store policy). If you just want to make a couple, you’ll probably be ok. But, when we made these as party favors, we talked to a manager to get the 12 that we needed.
You’ll find all the directions you need in the video:
What’s your favorite Disney movie with swords in it?

Super cute!!
How fun!
Cheap, easy fun and safe. Something the whole family can enjoy.
Thanks. May have to make two next time boys are over. With all three men in the painting industry finding a piant stick should not be hard!
I bet they would love it!!! And, yes, sounds like you’ll have no problem getting some paint sticks! 😉
Ohhh, can’t wait till my son gets older. This will be great. I need to bookmark your blog with all these great ideas!

SO cute! Making a sword on the fly is probably one of the best skills a mom of boys can have lol! Love it!
Thanks! 🙂 That is definitely a good mom of boys skill!

Thank you for the idea, I am planning a major Cub camp for next spring and this was the inspiration I needed for our swords. I will use yardsticks to get the length I need for our Knights of the Round table
This is a great project! I’ve featured it on Copycat Crafts today http://www.copycatcrafts.com/disney-inspired-diy-swords/
