As a former teacher and the mom of an emergent reader, I’m all for programs that encourage reading–especially during the summer! Last year, we didn’t do as much summer practice with Big Brother and it cost him when the school year started. He regressed much more than I had anticipated (and I felt like the worst mom ever). Needless to say, we haven’t made the same mistake again this summer. So, I’m thrilled to share some great summer reading fun thanks to a sponsored campaign with JetBlue! (I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for JetBlue. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating).JetBlue has partnered with Random House Children’s Books and Magic Tree House author, Mary Pope Osborne, on the Soar with Reading program. The program not only helps kids’ imaginations take flight and soar with reading, but it also helps get books to children in need! It’s such a perfect partnership as The Magic Tree House series really does allow little imaginations to soar. Jack and Annie are always off on amazing adventures and they’re an integral part to the Soar with Reading site!
Each day, you can visit the Soar with Reading website to watch video clues from Mary Pope Osborne as to the whereabouts of Jack and Annie and make a guess as to where they’re heading next on their travels. For every guess, JetBlue will donate one book (up to $500,000 worth of books) to children in need! There had already been over $280,000 worth of books donated when we made our first guess! As a bonus, everyone who submits a guess has a chance to win one of six first six first-prize trips throughout the summer, which will include a JetBlue Getaways Travel Certificate for two and an autographed copy of Magic Tree House #52: Soccer on Sunday, or a grand-prize drawing, with first prize being a JetBlue Getaways vacation for up to four people and a Magic Tree House boxed set of books. Second prizes include a Magic Tree House boxed set!
Big Brother (who can be a very reluctant reader at times) was excited to check out the website. The Magic Tree House series is actually the very first chapter books we ever read together. He was immediately drawn to the adventure of it all. We’ve been doing a lot of traveling this summer, so it was great to go to the Soar with Reading to check out what Jack & Annie are up to. There are a whole bunch of fun activities on the site, including printable “The Magic Tree House Passport to Adventure”. We’ve printed it out and are having fun starting to go through the activities!
So, be sure to head over to the Soar with Reading site and make your guesses to donate books to kids in need (& be entered to win those fun prizes). Then, explore all the fun activities. And, if you’re not already familiar with the Magic Tree House series, the website is a great place to start. I firmly believe they are fabulous books for kids–a great way to #soarwithreading! With these books, they’re learning all about the world through travel, adventure, history, and even some science. We own about half the set right now!
What are YOUR favorite ways to encourage summer reading?
Disclosure: All opinions are entirely my own. We’ve loved The Magic Tree House for years, which is why I was so excited to share this program!

We have loved reading and listening to this series this summer.
I absolutely loved using these books with my 2nd and 3rd graders. They are the perfect series for early readers looking to go on an adventure.
