I’m Heather, one of the girls behind A Couple of Craft Addicts.  I was flattered when Sara asked if I would like to be included in her Cornucopia of Creativity Series!  I’m excited to be sharing a home decoration that will also serve as a fun educational tool to help you teach your children about Thanksgiving.
My daughter is almost three years old.  She is young but this year I want to start teaching her the meaning behind holidays.  I certainly don’t want her to think Thanksgiving is only about eating turkey and pies!  I decided in our home each day in November we would talk about something we are grateful for.  This was the perfect opportunity to make something for our holiday decorations!

I started with a cabinet door that I picked up from the sidewalk on bulk trash day.  It was in perfect condition and I knew I would use it for a project at some point.

I cut vinyl letters using my Cricut and then stuck them onto the cabinet door.

The chalkboard is not yet attached.

Next I painted the door with silver spray paint.  The door dried for a couple of hours outside and then I peeled off the vinyl letters.

I had picked up the chalkboard for 25 cents at a craft store.  I thought about painting the frame but couldn’t decide on a color and was working against my daughter’s nap that would be ending soon.  I took a risk and used an orange marker instead of using paint.  It worked out perfectly!

I used Elmer’s wood glue to attach the frame to the painted cabinet door. Then I pulled out a package of adhesive foam leaves to embellish the final project.

I’m not ready to show you everything in our home on display for Thanksgiving quite yet.  But I can tell you this fits right in!
I’m really looking forward to talking to my daughter about all the things we should be grateful for.  Today we are grateful for friends!
What are you grateful for?
Thanks for letting us share our fun project!
