Have you heard of “boo bags” at Halloween (aka “You’ve Been Booed”)? If not, it’s where you leave some goodies/gift with a fun note at a friend or neighbor’s door, then asking them to “boo” someone else–essentially a fun little random acts of kindness/pay it forward idea! Well, Elmer’s has their own version for Back to School time: “Bag It Forward“! It’s so easy to participate–just pick up some school supplies, package them up, and then donate them to a school/organization, a child in need, or a teacher! Then, add your pictures to Bag It Forward to share your experience with everyone…no blog post necessary. #BagItForward

As a teacher on leave (I taught high school biology until the last school year), I would have LOVED receiving something like this and knew immediately that I wanted to do this for some of my teacher friends! Teachers are always spending money on their classrooms out of their own pockets –no matter the grade level or area taught! As you might imagine, I have A LOT of teacher friends, so the hardest thing about this was deciding who to surprise. And, I couldn’t just pick one! Instead, I decided to “Bag It Forward” to my old building–filled with many of my math & science teacher friends. Every day, many of them gather in the teacher workroom for lunch. So, I decided to pack up a big bag and have the bag left in there to surprise them on Friday! Hopefully it was a good end to the first-full week back at school!

We picked up a whole bunch of supplies at Walmart (for more info, check out our thisMoment story here)–things like folders, white out, dry erase markers, hole punches, Elmer’s Glue-All, Elmer’s X-TREME Glue Stick (a stronger formula), Elmer’s Project Poppers markers, paper, colored pencils and more!I packaged everything up in one large bag, attached the fun “You’ve Been Bagged” note (which would have looked even better had the printer not run out of colored ink, boo!), and attached a fun little apple for good measure! 🙂Then, we loaded up and made the very familiar drive to school! Here’s the bag in front of my old building! Hope it was a “happy Friday” moment for all my old colleagues and friends! In addition to participating in the Bag It Forward campaign, there is another way to help donate to kids in need! From July 25 through Sept. 1, for each “like” on the Elmer’s Facebook page the company will donate a product to the Foundation’s national network of free stores, where teachers from disadvantaged schools can “shop” for free for school supplies. Products to be donated include a variety of glues, foam board, project supplies and pencil sharpeners. If you already like the page, Elmer’s will make a contribution on your behalf, but you can donate again by watching a video on the Elmer’s Kids In Need Facebook tab and sharing it with your friends and family.

Also, did you know that Elmer’s is a Upromise partner? So, every time you purchase an Elmer’s or Krazy Glue product with your registered drug or grocery card, a percentage of your purchase will be put into your Upromise account. Will YOU (or have you) Bagged It Forward?!
