DIY Gift Idea: Wooden Photo Coasters

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, along with Teacher Appreciation week, Father’s Day, graduations & wedding season, there’s no shortage of celebrations that you might like a sentimental/thoughtful gift for. I personally love photo gifts, like these DIY wooden photo coasters! DIY Wooden Photo CoastersSimple & sweet! We made these using just a few supplies and one handy new tool – The BladeRunner from Rockwell Tools. With it, we cut the perfect coaster-sized circles out of a piece of red oak craft board wood (1/4″ x 6″ x 4′) we picked up at Lowe’s. It was less than $10 for the board and we got 11 coasters cuts from it. So, that makes this an inexpensive project! The only other materials you need are your photos and Mod Podge (and possibly some sand paper).¬† Rockwell Tools BladeRunnerUsing the BladeRunner was awesome! It cut the wood beautifully – nice & smooth! If you do a fair bit of DIY, I highly recommend it (and stay tuned for a BIG giveaway)! It’s got a sawdust drawer to make clean-up a breeze (plus you can hook up a vacuum/shop vac to it while it works), blade storage in an easily accessible drawer, and it can cut wood, metal, plastic and tile! A super handy tool! DIY Photo CoastersOnce you have your pretty coasters cut (don’t worry if they’re not exactly perfect), you need some photos to cut for the coaster tops. I just used a pen and traced the coaster circle right on the photo. Then, Little Brother helped me “paint the Mod Podge” on the wooden top. We stuck the photo on and then repeated with a thin layer of Mod Podge. Making photo coastersAnd, that’s all there is to it! Once the Mod Podge is dry you can stack up the coasters to package in any cute way you like. Use pictures of the kids/grandkids for Mother’s Day & Father’s Day. Or, pictures of the happy couple would make this a cute wedding gift. I love how easy it is to make…and how personalized you can make these! DIY Wooden Coaster gift
