I know that agony. I have been there 3 times myself. Until this last time, I thought it was something I must have been doing wrong. It took my third baby being hospitalized for no weight gain for an LC to finally diagnose IGT. I went through the same thing through my pregnancies (no breast changes) and after delivery (no engorgement, milk never “came in” but did change in color.) Before, all the LCs said I wasn’t getting engorged because I was nursing so often, but my baby was screaming/starving. I’m sorry you had to go through this, but know you’re not alone. I have been there, too.

Came to your series through Not Just a Housewife's "Get Real" linkup. My Mom went through a similar scenario when my brother was born - but due to the military hospital giving her a shot to dry her milk up without her knowldege. She tried to nurse for days before determining that her milk wasn't coming in.

Also have to agree with the statement that you'd know when your milk came in - I thought they would just get hard and full feeling but they looked like giant torpedoes sticking straight out - hilarious looking, but so painful and nothing you'd miss happening.

It's very interesting to read your story; I think it's a good lesson to those that were able to breastfeed (still had some supply issues and had to supplement a little), and don't realize that the "decision" not to breastfeed isn't always available - sometimes the matter is out of your hands.

I have friends who went through this exact same scenario. I understand being devastated by it. I watched them go through it. Which is why I HATE when so-called breastfeeding advocates say bad things about women who don't. For some reason, they forget that there are lots of women who simply can't. I haven't read part three yet, so I don't know how your story turns out. But I know you are not alone. I also am 100% certain you are a great mom.

I'm so sorry. The same thing happened to me, but my doctor was so quick to tell me to use a bottle. I was so frustrated because nursing is what I wanted to do and they didn't seem to want to help. I'm sorry.

Stories like this (and you are definitely NOT alone!) are why I was and am so thankful that I was able to produce and my son latched on so well and got what he needed, but I was still always concerned about the possibility of everything you are sharing!
