The boys and I had so much fun this week making a colorful kids craft perfect for spring: DIY butterfly magnets! DIY Butterfly MagnetsAren’t they cute?! 🙂 They’re colorful, fun, and easy to make! Plus, a lot of the supplies are things you might just have around the house anyway! Some simple household supplies and a few crafty products are all you’ll need. We were sent some paints & Mod Podge to try from Plaid Crafts for making our craft!

Supplies you’ll need to make butterfly magnet clips:

  • Mod Podge Washout (I used this formula since the kids were helping)
  • Apple Barrel paint (green, purple, yellow, and blue)
  • Clothespins
  • Coffee filters
  • Chenille stems
  • Glitter
  • Magnets
  • hot glue

Directions:

1. Start by painting the clothespins. This is something the kiddos can have fun doing! Little Brother even enjoyed mixing the paint colors. 😉Painting Clothespins2. Let those dry. Once dry, the boys decided they needed some glitter. So, we painted on a coating of Mod Podge Washout and then sprinkled glitter over top of it!  Modpodge Washout3. While we let those dry, then we got to work on the coffee filters. I just let them dab the paint (some colors as the clothespins) on the coffee filters. They had fun choosing and mixing colors. Then, we let everything dry overnight (I don’t think that’s necessary, it’s just the way it worked out). The next morning, I drew a wing pattern on the coffee filters that Big Brother cut out. Once the wings were cut out, we hot-glued them to the back of the clothespins. The  boys chose which wings with which body. And, then, they chose what color antennae (chenille stems cut in half) each butterfly should have. For the antennae, I just put a tiny glob of hot glue in the middle of the clothespin (down close to the hinge) and then stuck the cut stems in.

I happened to have magnetic sheets, but really, any magnetic will do! Magnetic Sheets Once done, you have some cute magnetic clips for the fridge. Perfect for spring! 1. So great! I was just complaining that I didn’t have enough magnents to hang artwork on the fridge. I love that this can double duty!
