Last week I shared all about our new grill just in time for Memorial Day and all those perfect summer entertaining occasions! Our first meal cooked on it included my husband’s favorite beer brats (why yes, he is from the midwest with German roots 😉)! Plus, we tried making grilled corn on the cob for the first time ever!

The first time I can ever remember having a beer brat was in Nebraska and Mr. Mom Endeavors makes them just like his dad–a bit of a family tradition of sorts. They are easy to do and taste SO good fresh off the grill!

Grilled Beer Brats

Ingredients:

  • Brats (for a big grilling cook-out we usually do a package of 10-12 brats)
  • Beer of your choice (we did two cans for 12 brats)
  • Onion (1/2 to one whole large onion cut into approx. 1/4″ slices, depending on how much onion flavor you like)
  • Water (enough to cover the brats in the pot after the beer is added. For us, that was about 3 to 4 cups)

Directions:

– Place brats in a large pot. Add onions & beer. Then add enough water to just cover the brats.

– Bring to a boil. Then, simmer for 15-20 minutes–basically until brats start changing color, but aren’t quite fully cooked. Then, transfer to the grill.

– Grill over medium heat for 3-5 minutes per side, or until browned to perfection! 😉

Super yum!

Grilled Corn on the Cob

To accompany our delish brats, we tried grilling corn on the cob for the first time. I’ve heard of a bunch of different ways to do this, but with our new grilling accessories, we just opted to try them straight on the grill inside one of our baskets.

All we did was clean (de-husk & silk) the corn & soak it in water for about 15 minutes. I rubbed each ear very lightly with olive oil and then we placed the ears in the grilling basket.

They went on the grill over medium heat for around 5-10 minutes/side. They got a little dark in places, but smelled amazing and you could hear the inside of the kernels sizzling! It went great with our grilled brats!

  1. Hmmm, I will try adding the onion next time we do our beer brats! YEP,I am of German ancestory and live in Iowa! LOL. He have never tried to grill corn, sound great and a good way to fix everything outdoors in hot weather and NOT heat the kitchen, too. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs….

  2. Ah – Brats!! Can’t imagine life without a brat fry every now and then (more now than then, actually). Excellent instructions about giving them bad boys a bath in beer ahead of time (and you didn’t boil them!) Bravo!
