Big Brother’s Kindergarten class has been reading various Gingerbread Man stories this month and they’re working on gingerbread houses to end the week. So, to thank his teachers & brighten their day just a bit on what had to be a difficult day, we made all the kindergarten teachers these adorable felt gingerbread men ornaments (or in this case, gingerbread girls!)!
I found a great kit at Joann’s full of the gingerbread people cut-outs & stickers to decorate. Given his love of the Rudolph ornaments, I knew Big Brother would love making them! He’s had so much fun talking about all their gingerbread stories at school. He decided on making the gingerbread girls (as all of the teachers are women) and we’ll be making some of the gingerbread “boys” for our tree! The kit itself was really easy. He got to decide and do just about everything. I just needed to hot glue a couple of pieces. Then, to make them ornaments, I cut some candy cane chenille stems in half. I looped them on the back and stuck down with hot glue. If you can’t find a reasonably priced kit, you could definitely make these totally “from scratch”. You’d just need a gingerbread man template to cut out the felt with. Then, you could decorate with stickers, other felt pieces, button, ribbon, etc.
Because these were gifts for the teachers, I had him write a note on the paper. We kept it short & sweet…”thank you for being a good teacher”. I then made photocopies. Then, we punched a hole in the notes & tied them on with a ribbon. I walked him into school & he was so excited, proudly carrying in this creations! His teacher loved it. And, that made my heart happy! Now, we can’t wait to make the ones for our family Christmas tree!!

Just did these…they are adorable! We did them for my daughters teacher’s and my students. Did you happen to save the box? I wanted more and I can’t find them on the website 🙂
Thanx
Laura, I’m so sorry- I didn’t. I would have put a picture in the post had I kept it (the boys were excited & sort of tore it apart). I tried looking online too–no luck. 🙁
