Just like Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and the gang do in the all-new Frozen movie, we had an epic adventure at the Disney Frozen II World Premiere in Hollywood. From walking the red carpet to seeing the film in the famed Dolby Theatre (home of the Oscars) and attending the after party with the cast, crew, Disney execs, friends & family, it was an absolutely magical night! Read on to see all the Frozen 2 red carpet premiere fun – including the AMAZING experiences we had with some of our favorite character actors and filmmakers!  If you’ve been a reader here long, you know that we’re HUGE Disney fans and that I’ve had the immense pleasure of attending multiple Disney film press junkets and premieres over the past 6 years. So, this was actually my 7th red carpet experience (you can see the other Disney premieres here:  Disney’s PlanesMoanaPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Thor: RagnarokAvengers: Infinity War, and Ralph Breaks the Internet) and it’s always a fun, star-studded event! But this was one extra EXTRA special – a true lucky number 7 – and not just because I LOVE Frozen (or that Frozen is the highest grossing animated film of all time). This was one was my FAVORITE because my family got to attend with me for this first time! Truly, it’s hard for me to even describe how incredibly magical it was to have them there to share in the experience. And what an experience it was!

Frozen Costumes & Disneybounding

Originally we were invited to come join a fan section all dressed in our DIY Frozen family costumes from Halloween (which was such an incredibly fun invite to receive since we LOVE doing Disney family costumes). But plans evolved (for the better – thanks, Disney!) and ultimately we decided to have the boys still come in their fun character costumes and that the adults would “Disneybound” as Anna and Kristoff instead of being in full costumes. And I think we pulled it off well! Family dressed in costume on Frozen 2 Red CarpetWhat do you think? I personally LOVE the way everything turned out! Although I wasn’t sure what colors the carpet was going to be, I had a strong inkling that it might be maroons and/or purples (especially after seeing all the fall-inspired colors in the previews and in Anna’s new outfit). And I’m SO glad I guessed right! In the evolution of our plans, the adult red carpet wardrobe change (from costumes to more formal attire) happened less than 5 hours before we were getting on a flight! So, I had to shop fast, but I’m happy with what I found! For my Anna Frozen 2 Disneybound look, I found some cute knee-high black suede boots (at DSW) and a black pencil skirt with a maroon blouse (at Target). I ended up putting a belt over the blouse, both to cinch my waist a bit and because Anna has a belt on her dress. If I would have had brown like hers, that would have been even better (as would a touch of something goldenrod). But, I think it worked for less than 1 hour of shopping! The simple braids then completed the “Anna look”. Kristoff & Anna DisneyboundingKristoff was a little harder to come up with something “dressy” on a short amount of  time. So, we just did a simple grey dress shirt and slacks with black shoes. But then we took the sash belt off the DIY Kristoff costume as a nod to Kristoff. It was a simple addition that worked perfectly to tie our outfits together. Then the boys of course went in full costume! Frozen 2 Premiere CostumesWe had a rock troll, Olaf, and Sven represented…and oh my goodness were the costumes a hit! While we saw quite a few Anna & Elsa costumes, we didn’t see another boy on the carpet dressed in costume. So these guys definitely got some fun attention. And that started from the moment we arrived at the red carpet!

Frozen 2 Red Carpet

In typical Disney movie premiere fashion, the whole red carpet experience was epic. The brilliant Disney details, the celebrities, the crowds – it was a crazy, amazing night. The entrance to the carpet was especially beautiful with the huge snowflake, beautiful colors, fallen leaves, and mist! Frozen 2 Premiere EntranceJust as we went to enter the main tent area, we even got a nod from Anna & Elsa. They noticed the boys and were waving at them, which as so sweet (and enabled me to get this adorable shot)! Anna & Elsa at the Frozen 2 PremiereAnd they weren’t the only ones to get excited about seeing the boys! Just after we entered the carpet walkway, a gentleman excitedly asked me if he could take a photo with the boys!!! He explained that he worked on the film and LOVED their costumes…and would love to get a picture! We happily obliged (and truthfully I was a bit in awe that someone who WORKED ON THE FILM loved seeing the costumes so much that he wanted a picture with our boys!!!!). In the craziness of the carpet experience, we forgot to ask his name or specific role. But thankfully, we ran into him a couple more times during the night and got all that info. In fact, he even specifically sought us out after the movie to hear what we thought about it!!! I mean, how COOL IS THAT?!?!Meet Dan Lund, VETERAN Disney Animator (going as far back as working on Beauty & the Beast) and Visual Effects Designer on Frozen 2! WHOA. He was SO kind and humble and we LOVED talking to him (even though I had NO idea the level of veteran I was talking to at the time – I looked up his name the next day…and whoa). Seeing his genuine excitement over the costumes I made and the boys in them is truly something I’ll never forget. When I posted about my interview with legendary Disney Animator Mark Henn, I shared some of my old Disney sketches I did as a kid. While I’m nowhere near talented enough an artist to do anything like what they do, the fact that an animator who worked on one of the movies loved seeing my kids in costumes I made SO much that he’d ask for a photo…well, it’s just mind-blowing and some incredibly special “creator validation” (plus a bit of a childhood dream fulfilled in an unexpected way).  Talk about a way to kick off the red carpet experience!

We continued on the carpet then, trying to take it all in and get as many photos we could manage. With the boys’ costumes, there were some seriously adorable shots to get! I love all of these photos SOOooooo much! Frozen 2 Premiere Character Costume Photos

Frozen 2 Premiere Movie Experience

After all of our photo snapping and mingling on the red carpet, we made our way to the beautiful Dolby Theatre (home of the Oscars) to see the film. Though we didn’t see all the main celebrities from the film on the carpet, they were definitely there. Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell of course looked beautiful (and like they genuinely have so much fun together)!

We saw them (and the entire cast) inside the theater. Stars from Frozen 2 in attendance included Kristen Bell (“Anna”), Idina Menzel (“Elsa”), Josh Gad (“Olaf”), Jonathan Groff (“Kristoff”/”Sven”), Sterling K. Brown (“Lieutenant Matthias”), Evan Rachel Wood (“Queen Iduna”), Alfred Molina (“King Agnarr”), Martha Plimpton (“Yelena”), Jason Ritter (“Ryder”), Rachel Matthews (“Honeymaren”), Jeremy Sisto, Hadley Gannaway, and Mattea Conforti. Key filmmakers in attendance included Jennifer Lee (director/screenplay by/story by/chief creative officer), Chris Buck (director/story by), Peter Del Vecho (producer), Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (original songs by/story by), Christophe Beck (original score composed by), plus end-credit artists Brendon Urie (Panic! At The Disco), Brian Bell and Rivers Cuomo (Weezer).

What an awesome group! They were all greeted to many applause as they were introduced on stage to kick off the movie experience.

And then we watched the film (more on that just as soon as the review embargo lifts, but we already have tickets for opening night to see it again though if that tells you anything 😉 ). Watching the film with the cast & filmmakers is always such an amazing experience. With a musical like this, it’s very reminiscent of being at a Broadway show. Everyone claps and cheers when the opening music starts, when each character finishes a big song number, when the credits roll, during the credits, etc. It’s such a unique, incredible movie-watching experience.

Frozen 2 Premiere After Party

And speaking of a unique, memorable experience, the Frozen 2 After Party ranks as one of the most surreal couple hours of my life! Immediately following the movie, the entire theater migrated over to a giant ballroom for the after party. And what a party it was! This photo doesn’t do it justice AT ALL, but it gives you the overall vibe of what things were like (and also shows that the lighting in there was NOT ideal for phone photographs, lol). What’s extra fun about that photo though is that we walked into the party directly behind actress Rachel Matthews from the movie. So that’s her in the center of the photo!

Both inside the party and outside, there were fun activities and photos opps at every turn. You could play charades or the new Just Dance Game (featuring the new song “Into the Unknown”). Thanks to McDonald’s & the new fun Frozen 2 Happy Meal Toys coming for the movie, there were ice luge races on a giant ice track. You could do a special Frozen VR video. LEGO (one of our personal favorites) sponsored a Build ‘n Play section. Build-a-Bear was there featuring the adorable Frozen 2 plush line they’ll have. Makeup artists, face painting, Olaf cupcakes, the list of fun activities goes on and on! The photo opps were SO fun too! I’ll spare you from sharing the 50 bajillion different shots I have. But, I can’t resist sharing one from the Frozen 2 Sleigh (sponsored by Enterprise). Seriously, the set up was SO cute. So, we had to have Sven take us for a spin! 😉 And then, we had to give some warm hugs to our favorite snowman! I mean, when you have the chance to meet Olaf…you meet Olaf. Right?! Ahhhhhhh! That’s right! Little costumed Olaf, met THE Olaf! For those living under a rock troll somewhere, that’s Josh Gad (voice of Olaf) with our little guy.

Frozen 2 Premiere Celebrity Experiences

You guys – this night!!!!! I’ve saved the BEST of the night for last! But before I share more, I have to say that I don’t often ask for photos with the celebrities. The cast & crew are there celebrating with their families and friends. And, I don’t often feel right interrupting their night with “fan girl” moments. I will ONLY do it if the situation feels just right. And lucky for us (and our adorable costumed boys), there were a few incredible interactions we had with some really fun Frozen 2 talent.

It started with our interactions with Dan Lund (that I shared above). And it continued when we saw Josh Gad at the after party. He was next to the bar chatting with a lot of people and seemed ok with doing photos. As we neared the area, the security guard saw the boys and ushered us closer to Josh. And as soon as Josh turned around and saw our little Olaf, he immediately said how awesome he looked and how much he loved the costume…then asked if our little Olaf wanted to take a photo with him! SO awesome!!  Then all the boys jumped in for a photo. So cool…and he was so nice! Earlier in the evening, we walked right by Idina, but she was eating dinner and we didn’t want to bother her then. So, after meeting Josh, we decided to venture back over to where we had seen Idina to see about a photo (Kristen Bell wasn’t at the after party, by the way). When we arrived at the general area where Idina was, we saw that basically the rest of the cast was there too, including Jonathan Groff (voice of Kristoff and Sven). And with our little Sven there, we really wanted to meet him. So we decided to wait there (about 20 feet away from them or so) to see if the opportunity would strike. It just so happens that he was talking with Jennifer Lee (creator of Frozen & now head of Walt Disney Animation). After a few minutes, she turned around and spotted us. In that moment, she came right over to us and squealed “SVEN!” She then commented on all of the costumes – how incredible they were and how much she loved them (and I just about DIED. Between her & Dan Lund earlier, I seriously can’t imagine higher praise on my DIY costumes). We chatted with her for about 5 minutes about the movie and got a picture with her. And then she personally escorted us over to Jonathan Groff. You guys, the CREATOR OF THIS MOVIE (AND HEAD OF DISNEY ANIMATION) offered to escort us over to meet the actor. I CANNOT EVEN! Just like Josh Gad, Jonathan was nothing but wonderful to the boys. So sweet. And our luck got even better when the professional photographer Alberto Rodriguez happened to show up right about that time. The lighting was HORRID (even worse than the shot with Jennifer). The lights turned to red & blue and my phone just couldn’t handle it in that spot. I was panicking (feeling SO sad about how awful quality of the photos with Jonathan were going to be), when Alberto stepped in and said he’d take them. And, I’ll be forever thankful as the photos are EPIC! Kristoff and Sven took an individual photo together first! Awwwww. I love it SO much (also fun to note that producer Peter Del Vecho is standing just off left pointing at Sven and Idina was sitting just off right at a table with her family). Then, the other boys hopped in for a quick photo. Jonathan especially loved Grand Pabbie the troll too! 🙂 And you guys, this photo of the 4 of them then made it into the OFFICIAL set of publicity photos from the event. I still can’t even believe it!!!!

Ahhhhh! So seriously cool! Alfred Molina then walked right by us, as did Rachel Matthews who also took time to stop quickly and tell us how much she loved the costumes. And then as we turned around with big smiles from all of that, who should be right there but Sterling K. Brown!!! So incredibly crazy! Then later, as the boys were doing the VR Experience, I happened to notice that Big Brother was doing the experience while Jonathan Groff, Director Chris Buck and others casually chatted in the background. Lol! So surreal! And then as we were leaving and taking one last photo, I physically bumped into someone…as we both turned to each other to apologize, I saw that it was songwriter Robert Lopez. HA! He was leaving with his whole big family group. So I promptly let him and Kristin Anderson-Lopez how absolutely incredible the music was in the movie! They’ll hopefully be taking home another Oscar for this one!  Needless to say, this was an absolutely incredible night – the atmosphere, the whole experience, the movie! It was all so completely magical. We left the party exhausted (it was about 11:30), filled with smiles, a bunch of fun goodies for the boys, and magical memories that will last a lifetime!

Stay tuned for a full Frozen 2 movie review coming soon. And in the meantime, get your tickets for opening night! Trust me on this one! Frozen 2 opens in theaters nationwide on November 22, 2019!
