Choices and Integrity – Keys to Transformation #ShakleeBlogger

As a #ShakleeBlogger, this post is part of a sponsored campaign with Shaklee. May was month 3 of my Shaklee 180 endeavors and boy was it a crazy one! Mother’s Day, my birthday day, a media trip to Disneyland, our family’s first trip to Walt Disney World for Disney Social Moms Conference, sick kiddos, and now I have strep throat! Ugh! While I did still make some good choices this past month (like participating in the runDisney event even though I was SO tired after flying the red-eye), it might come as no surprise that I most definitely indulged too much and didn’t do a great job of staying on my Shaklee 180 Turnaround plan. In fact, a few weeks ago I shared some about struggling with motivation.

But then, I got a great wake-up call in perhaps the most unlikely of places–The Disney Social Media Moms Conference. Other than the runDisney event, I didn’t really expect much talk about health, fitness, or weight loss. So imagine my surprise when Chris Powell, trainer on ABC’s Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition, took the stage during our kickoff event! Chris Powell #DisneySMMomsChris talked to us some about choices, but also shared the secret to transformation (if you’ve never seen the show, people go through AMAZING transformations in a one-year time span). Any guesses as to what he said?….

The secret to transformation is integrity. The gist was that your integrity (in the promises you keep to yourself), your dignity and your self-esteem are all tied up together. It really struck me when he said, “ I don’t see 200 pounds of extra body fat. I see 200 extra pounds of broken promises.” Wow. I don’t know that I had ever thought about things that way before, but it is really powerful and really true! Thanks to Marina from Mommy Snippets, here’s a little bit of Chris Powell’s talk during the conference:

How often do you keep promises and commitments to others, but don’t keep them to yourself? How often do you set unattainable goals or make inflated promises to yourself? Then, when you don’t keep them, it’s just another ding to your integrity and to your self-esteem.I know that I am guilty of that…a lot. And, I want it to stop. I need it to stop. Perhaps that’s the true heart of the struggle with my motivation recently–the lack of confidence in myself.

So, now at the halfway point in my Shaklee 180 experience, I have a renewed sense of determination. With the Shaklee products, I’ve got some great weight loss tools at my disposable. So, I’m taking to heart what Chris said. Baby steps & small attainable goals. Making promises to myself that I can keep for the betterment of my integrity and my self-esteem. And, ultimately, I know that the added bonus will be a positive gain on my health and more pounds lost on the scale!

What do YOU think about transformation and integrity?

What a blessing. I am so impressed by his work. What an insightful statement. My doctor said to me once… You need to wake up every morning and ask yourself “What am I going to do for me?”. Putting everyone elses needs first is a classic mom trait. I hope we can both learn from your experience.

Man I wish I could have heard that speech it sounds so inspiring and motivating. I love Donna’s comment about waking up and asking what you are doing for yourself. I can say I go to bed most nights and wonder what I did for myself – I am always helping everyone else but me. What a great post!

It’s funny how you go to something like that, thinking you’ll learn about one thing and focus on that and then out of nowhere…you’re drawn to something that has sort of been in the back of your mind for awhile. Divine Intervention, maybe? Glad you got rejuvenated! Little steps go a long way!
