A few weeks ago, I shared with you my excitement about attending the  “Capturing True Emotion” Photography Workshop taught by the fabulous Val Westover and Stephanie Adriana

I’m so pleased with all that I’ve learned and am so excited to report that I’ve only shot in manual mode since that day in February! Because of that, the quality of my shots have increased ten fold! Here’s a few of my favorites to show you…

Because I loved working with Val & Stef so much, I headed back to another workshop as a volunteer this past weekend. It was great to help others and have the opportunity for more learning & practice.

While it’s clear that I think the workshops are fantastic, we know that unfortunately everyone doesn’t live near cities where the workshops are offered. So, the next best thing is to learn from Val by reading his book, “Capturing True Emotion: A Photographer’s Guide to Understanding the Basic Elements of Photography“.

Val’s guide walks you step-by-step through the important aspects of photography. Topics include ISO, aperture, shutter speed, metering, light, and more! The writing is straightforward, easy to understand, and much more interesting than just your camera’s manual! After working through the book, you will have a much better understanding of not only how your camera works, but how to take better photos! It’s a wonderful resource for anyone that wants to understand their camera/photography better and would also make a great gift! With all the information it contains, I think $14.95 is a fantastic priceBut, FREE is even better!!

Val has agreed to giveaway a copy of “Capturing True Emotion” to TWO lucky Mom Endeavors readers!
WINNERS:
Congratulations to dmarie1975 & Vivian! Hope this takes your photography to all new heights! ENJOY!

  1. I am most interested in learning how to shoot manually, in sports situations (my son just started playing soccer and basketball). Looks like a great book, I hope I win!

  2. I am interested in learning how to catch my little Toddler Tornado in action! I'm tired of her being nothing more than a blur in my photos!

  3. I want to learn how to get the looks of my son as they happen rather than trying to pry them out of him again and again so my camera gets them. (and I'm already a follower of your's!)

  4. I'd like to learn about photography, blurring out the background and capturing clear pictures up close of one item. I like to take pictures of flowers & plants.

  5. I just got a big tax return so I'm hoping to buy my camera with it! I would love have a helpful book to learn more about photography!

  6. I would love to learn how to capture photos of my children better.

Thanks for letting me know about the giveaway!

  7. Whoops, the last one was supposed to say "like your FB page and twitter" and this one is supposed to say I follow your blog 🙂
    And that's 4!
    Thanks for the heads up!

  8. I would love to learn to take better pictures to capture the quickly passing moments of my children growing up. They play soccer and I would enjoy learning how to capture action shots as well.

  9. I hit up one of their seminars while they were in Seattle, and photographers of every level can learn something from Val and Stephanie. They got me to break one of my biggest security blankets and shoot below 400 ISO. People get stuck in their ways and it’s very hard to change them at times. I would recommend anyone taking their seminar as they are very approachable, personable and are wonderful one on one.
