I’m so excited that we are now the proud owners of a much more functional (and visually pleasing) office & craft room! All it took was a few shopping trips to Lowe’s, a few hundred dollars, a few days of hard work, and a few garbage bags of stuff trashed & recycled! 😉

As a Lowe’s Creative Blogger, this month’s challenge was to pick a room and give it a facelift! And, boy did our office/craft room ever need one! When we moved in two years ago, I was 36 weeks pregnant with Little Brother and still teaching. I didn’t have the time or energy to do anything nice with the space. About the only “fun” decorating we did was putting all of our college memorabilia up in there (we are *diehard* Nebraska Cornhusker fans)! But, we had lots of mismatching furniture and not very functional spaces. Even though I had a designated scrapbooking/crafting space, I couldn’t access my things half the time! The room ending up being the “dumping ground” place and there was a lot of stuff that had no “home”. As I mentioned in the “work-in-progress” post, no “home” for things = unorganized MESS! It was BAD! But, after working on refreshing that space this month, we are SO pleased with the results! See for yourself:

Better, huh?! It might be hard to pick out everything from the pictures, so here is the list of  everything we did to refresh the space:

  • Replaced mismatched shelving with ClosetMaid cube shelves
  • Added a small ClosetMaid cube shelf in the corner of the closet
  • Installed Allen & Roth White Bracket Shelves for college memorabilia
  • Added a ClosetMaid Storage Shelf for my Cricut & laminator
  • Rearranged posters & memorabilia
  • Built framed craft pegboard storage units (tutorial post coming soon!)
  • Created ribbon storage unit with dowel & closet bar holders
  • Hung a shoe storage bag over the back of door for more craft supply storage

Having the matching cube shelves made a HUGE difference. It not only looks SO much better, but is so much more functional! And, amazingly enough, we actually have extra space now. There are a couple of empty shelves, plus a couple of the bins have nothing in them!!

And, it’s amazing how much just getting the ClosetMaid Storage Shelf for the Cricut did–such a better use of space (and only $9.99!!). Now, all of my “crafty appliances” (the Cricut & all of its supplies, plus my laminator) are all together and I don’t have to move anything to a new location to use it! Installing the bracket shelves for the memorabilia looks so much nicer as well!

Then, we did some DIY projects and more detailed organization projects around the closet scrapbooking nook. We built the pegboard units & the ribbon dowel (details on all that coming soon in a separate post). I love how handy everything is now!!!

The over-the-door shoe organizer was another super easy (and inexpensive) fix! Just instead of shoes, it’s holding various craft supplies. I don’t know about you, but if I can’t see things, I tend to forget that I have them. So, with the clear pockets it’s SO easy to quickly assess what I have and grab what I need. These storage units are also nice if you have tall items that don’t fit elsewhere–think rolls of contact paper, wrapping paper, etc. You can just cut slits in the bottom of the pockets above and slide the rolls through. SO handy!!!  So, there you have it–a MUCH improved office and craft space! 1. Thanks, Steph! It’s so funny how sometimes the cheapest & simplest things are the handiest. It was only $10 and made such a big difference in the functionality for the Cricut! 🙂

  1. Wow, I love it! I love all the modular shelving! That is what we should have bought when we got a shelf (that I now hate) for our office. I love the door shoe hanger too!

  2. I seriously would give up sleep for a week to be able to organize every room in my house! you made such smart choices and your room looks beautiful. I love how the red makes it look so lively without being too harsh.
