Healthier Big Game Party Food: Turkey Sloppy Joe Dip #CookClassico

Sloppy Joe Dip

So, did you watch the Big Game tonight? What started out rather one-sided certainly turned interesting. Black outs, game delays, and an almost game winning comeback. Crazy stuff. We didn’t really care who won (though were cheering for the Ravens since they had a former Nebraska player–their punter. Go Big Red! ;) ), but it was one last excuse to have some football fun. With the steps I’ve been taking toward getting healthier though, I didn’t want to completely undo everything with a spread of traditional super unhealthy football eats! So, what’s a girl to do? Come up with a healthier Big Game menu! We still wanted some of the traditional football finger foods & flavors, but just with maybe a few less calories, carbs, and processed junk. So, for the main dish of sorts, I decided on making a healthier dip than many options out there…turkey sloppy joe dip!

Sloppy Joe DipWhile it might not be the most appetizing in appearance, it was really quite tasty! And, definitely healthier than other game day options! I used some of the new Classico canned crushed tomatoes now available at Walmart (which are 100% all-natural and packed fresh with no preservatives) and other vegetables; the turkey was super lean; and the dish was overall very low in carbs, plus gluten-free for the win!

Turkey Sloppy Joe Dip

Ingredients Turkey Sloppy Joe Ingredients

  • approx 1 lb. lean ground turkey (I used 93%)
  • 1/2 of medium sweet onion, chopped
  • 1/2 C chopped celery
  • 1/2 can of Classico crushed tomatoes (approx 2 cups)
  • 2 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 T dijon mustard
  • 1 T garlic powder
  • 1 T brown sugar
  • 2 T chili powder
  • 4 ounces (half package) cream cheese (use 1/3 fat or fat free)
  • 1/2 C shredded cheddar

Directions:

Making turkey sloppy joes

  1. In a large skillet coated with cooking spray, start to brown the onions & celery. Then, add the turkey to the onions & celery and cook over medium high heat until no longer pink.
  2. Pour in the crushed tomatoes. Then, stir in all other seasonings and sauces (except for the cheeses). Let simmer until a majority of the liquid has boiled off. Making sloppy joe dip
  3. Once most of the liquid has boiled off, stir in the cream cheese. Lastly, add in the shredded cheese.
  4. Serve warm with your celery or your favorite gluten-free chips! Football Sloppy Joe Dip

But, the dip wasn’t all! We had to have some other options too, plus a place to put it. So, for our one last football party of the season, we even turned the table into a football! ;) It was SO easy with just some white duct tape! The boys loved it! Football party tableIt was great for our healthier football spread and our fun football dishes. In addition to the sloppy joe dip & chips, we had fresh veggies with a greek yogurt ranch dip, buffalo cauliflower bites, and snickers-apple salad  (More recipes are coming soon!). Utensils were of course put out in my DIY football canister! Healthier Big Game Football Spread

Kid-Approved Football Food: Ham & Cheese Roll-ups

Ham & Cheese Rollups

There’s a rather big football game coming up! ;) If you’ve been around here long then you know we are big football fans, but more of the college variety! So, even though we don’t watch a lot of NFL during the season, we’re usually “game” to watch the Super Bowl. I love an excuse to make fun food & have a little party! Now with the kids though, we have to make sure that we have kid-friendly options. These ham & cheese roll-ups are great for kids and adults alike, are easy to make, and are even a bit football-shaped! Ham & Cheese RollupsPerfect little football finger foods for sure! And, they even freeze well too! I made a big batch & just kept them in the freezer. Sort of like homemade hot pockets! I could just pop them in the microwave and have a quick snack or meal for the kids!
Making ham rollups

The idea for these comes from Pillsbury. I happened to have a couple of cans of Pillsbury crescent roll dough and couldn’t decide what to make with them. I stumbled upon their ham & cheese crescent rollups and knew they’d be perfect for the kids!

The “recipe” for making these really couldn’t be easier! You just unroll your crescent dough and separate out the triangles. On each triangle place of slice of ham (as thinly sliced as possible) and two small strips of cheese (pick your fave). Then, roll up the triangles (fold in the sides as best you can). The possibilities of flavors here are really endless. You wouldn’t have to stick to ham & cheese! Pizza roll-ups? Turkey & pepper jack roll-ups? So many great options! But, simple ham and cheese was best for the kiddos!

Then, bake at 350 for about 15 minutes (until the rolls are golden brown). Just beware, if you use American cheese like I did, some cheese running out the sides was a bit unavoidable. You might consider baking on parchment or foil for easier clean up!  Ham & Cheese Roll-upsEasy & yummy! Perfect for some low maintenance football-watching finger foods that everyone can enjoy!

And, if you need some additional recipes to complete your game day menu, here’s a great list of ideas from some of my blogging friends! Go check them out and pin away!

DIY Football Party Canisters {College Football Saturday Link Party}

DIY Football Canisters

Welcome to the College Football Tailgate Link Party! I can’t believe the season is just about over! And, it does finish with a bang! There are SO many good games on this weekend, with two FULL days of college football. Nebraska played yesterday (and beat the Iowa Hawkeyes), as did the Arizona teams. The “duel in the desert” is a BIG rivalry game here. No matter what team you cheer for though, today’s project is sure to work well for your tailgating & watch parties!

A few weeks ago for our fun Nebraska tailgate watch party, I made some of these football party canisters–perfect for holding utensils and treats! There were easy to make and seem like they are going to hold up well for many uses!

To make some of your own football canisters, you’ll need:

  • Large clean, tin cans
  • Scrapbooking paper (I used a leather looking piece for the football & team paper for the other two).
  • Scissors or a paper cutter
  • Mod Podge & brush

Directions:

  1. Wrap the paper around the canister to size and cut accordingly.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge all over the can and apply the paper.
  3. Apply a thing layer of Mod Podge all over the paper.
  4. For the football canister, apply cut strips of white paper to look like the laces & design of a football.
  5. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge over the white strips.

Once dry, you’ll have some great canisters that you can reuse for tailgating or any of your football parties! The Mod Podge really helps the paper hold up, so they should last for some time! :)

Nebraska vs. Penn State Game {College Football Tailgate Link Party}

Nebraska Photoshoot Collage

Last week we were back in Nebraska and had a blast at the Nebraska vs. Penn State game!! If you follow me on instagram (momendeavors), then you may have seen all the photos! :) The weather was gorgeous, so the kids came to Lincoln with us before the game. We walked around campus (where Mr. Mom Endeavors & I met) and tried to do a little photoshoot. It’s SO hard to get a good photo of all three boys! But, we managed a few cute shots! Mr. Mom Endeavors’ parents took the boys for a fun afternoon and we stayed for the game. It’s always so fun & nostalgic for us to be on campus! We watched the band rehearse & march down to the stadium. Then, we enjoyed the game, which was rather crazy!  At halftime, things were looking rather dreadful. The score was 20–6, not in our favor. But, we turned it and came from behind to win 30–23!! Talk about exciting and stressful! We actually got tickets in the visitors’ section, so we sat by a bunch of Penn St. fans. Everyone was great! As usual, we had such a fun time! Have you had any football fun lately?
