DIY Disney Shirts!

DIY Disney Shirts

If you following on instagram or twitter, then you’ve likely seen all of our DIY Disney craziness lately! With our trip to Disney World coming up, I could NOT resist doing some DIY outfits for the boys, especially since I’m all about the boys having matching and coordinating as much as possible! ;) Last year around this time, I shared my DIY Disney Crafts Roundup post which ended up being the #1 post of last year! It’s been pinned more than 35,000 times!! WHOA! Disney Crafts RoundupOne of the many projects that I loved from the roundup but hadn’t gotten around to making yet was matching personalized Disney shirts for the boys like these from Random Thoughts of a Supermom. So, since Young House Love issued their spring pinterest challenge…and we’re going to Disney World for the Disney Social Media Moms Conference, this was the perfect opportunity to make some! :) DIY Disney ShirtsSqueee!!! I LOVE them!!!! I’ll be posting more detailed tutorials of some of our Disney projects after the trip (I’m too busy packing & packing to get everything posted right now ;) ), so stay tuned for that. But, overall, the general process was pretty similar to the ones on Random Thoughts of a Supermom. One major difference is that I used iron-on interfacing/fusible webbing for the Mickey heads instead of spray adhesive. So, mine are no-sew! Also, I used a cotton print fabric I found at Hobby Lobby instead of felt. The text was done on my Silhouette using heat-transfer! It was my first time using it and it was SO easy! I couldn’t believe it! I definitely recommend!

My mom (the one with all the sewing skills) has been working on some projects for us too. The boys have matching Star Wars outfits and I’ve got some cute new headbands! :) Super excited! Needless to say, my mom and I both have been busy!

DIY Disney CraftsIf you want to see the new clothes in action, be sure to follow along on instagram and/or twitter! I’ll be using the #DisneySMMoms hashtag! Stay tuned for some tutorials coming here on Mom Endeavors and also on Disney Mentor Moms! In the meantime, you can get lots of Disney craft inspiration on the DIY Disney roundup!

DIY Art: Beachy Seahorse Canvas #Lowescreator

DIY Canvas Beach Art

Did you know the Pantone Color of the Year is emerald?! And, emerald just happens to be the birthstone for May (and my birthday month ;) )!! As a Lowe’s Creative Ideas Blogger (*this is a sponsored post), this month’s challenge was all about incorporating the Pantone emerald color into a project! So, since we’re now in May already, I’m sharing some fun DIY canvas art with a beachy emerald theme! DIY Canvas Beach Art

To make this, you don’t need too many supplies–just some paint, a brush, and canvas. You may also want a paper and pencil too. That’s how I started. First up, I decided to sketch a seahorse (modeled after a few different images & graphics). So, I could make it about the same size as the 11x14 canvas, I taped 4 sheets of printer paper together (overlapping where needed). I did the sketch on that paper and then cut out the seahorse. Seahorse SketchI could have just taped down my seashorse template and painted over it, but I was concerned about bleed through with the paint. So instead, I just traced my sketch right onto the canvas. The next step was just to paint!Painting a seahorseI started with a large brush around the outside, then did a rather fine brush around the edge of the seahorse. Overall, it did need two coats. The canvas was still wet in spots when I took this photo (and I used a semi-gloss paint), but shows the just-finished product:
Seahorse Canvas ArtIt’s the perfect addition to a beachy bathroom. Now the only question is which bathroom should it live in? It’s super cute in the boys’ beach-themed bathroom: Kids beach bathroomBut, I also really like it in our beachy master bathroom too! I have the DIY Starfish art and framed shell art in there, so it’s seems fitting that the seahorse would be added too! DIY Beach-themed Bathroom ArtDecisions, decisions! I don’t know! Which bathroom do you think the sea horse should live in??

Simple Mother’s Day gift ideas for grandma: Flower pot & photo flowers

Mother's Day girft for grandma

I like having the boys make something fun or cute for the grandmas for Mother’s Day. A couple of years ago, they did a cute frame and some handprint flowers. Last year, for my mom we did a little flower pot with some cute picture flowers. It’s simple, easy to make, and cute! A perfect grandma gift for Mother’s Day! Mother's Day girft for grandmaObviously, I did the writing on the flower pot. It says, “Kids are like flowers and Grammies help them grow”. Awwww!  :) With that quote on the flower pot, then picture flowers seemed the perfect thing to put in! Those were also very easy to make. All you need is some paper, photos, and large popsicle sticks (these were the already colored ones, though you could easily paint some). Paper Photo FlowersFor the petals, I actually used my Cricut, but you could definitely cut them out by hand easily enough. Then, find some pictures where you can cut the faces out into a nice-size circle for the center of the flowers. Glue everything together, even add a leaf if you like. Then, for some added fun, attach magnets on the back. Flower magnetsWith that simple addition to the back, grandma can enjoy the flowers but use the flower pot for something else! They looked really cute on great-grandma’s fridge! :)

Disney-Inspired Kids Craft: DIY Swords

DIY Sword

Need a fun craft to keep the kids busy on a rainy day, a fun pirate-themed birthday party favor, or just some good ‘ole imaginative dress-up play fun to go with Disney shows like Jake and the Never Land Pirates or Sword and the Stone? Then, you HAVE to make some DIY swords! We made these for the boys’ Jake and the Never Land Pirates birthday party and they have held up surprisingly well (almost a month now)!

DIY SwordThis project really couldn’t be easier! You might even have all the supplies at home already. If not, a quick trip to a hardware store and you’ll have just about everything you need. Just a quick note though…most hardware stores won’t just give you a bunch of paint stir sticks. But, they may let you buy some at a nominal fee (it might depend on the specific manager/store policy). If you just want to make a couple, you’ll probably be ok. But, when we made these as party favors, we talked to a manager to get the 12 that we needed.

You’ll find all the directions you need in the video:

What’s your favorite Disney movie with swords in it?
