Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.DAs part of our #AvengerEvent & #ABCTVEvent press trip in Los Angeles, we had a special visit to the super secret MARVEL Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D set! For 3 hours, we had to “go dark” something like secret agents – no social media, no taking our own photos, no geo-tagging or sharing our location at all! So, I can’t tell you where we were. But, I can tell you that it was a pretty sweet behind-the-scenes experience. In case you missed it, be sure to read my first Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D cast interviews! Agents of SHIELD set visitWe got to meet quite a few important cast members and see SO much of the set. In fact, we were sitting just a few feet away from “the Bus” with Lola on it for our interviews! Then, thanks to Adam Taylor (ABC photographer), we got pictures in some pretty cool places…like on the Quinjet!!! Hello, COOL!!!!! SHIELD Quinjet on SetIt’s SO interesting to see movie/tv sets and all the “behind-the-scenes” stuff that goes on! In fact, we actually got to watch some filming…of the season finale!!!! We watched  Chloe Bennet (“Skye”) shooting a scene Luke Mitchell (Lincoln). No spoilers from me, but many people watching actually gasped!! Some shocking things shared! 😉

Another part of our peek behind the curtain was a tour through Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. costume department! Costume Designer Ann Foley gave us a tour of her department. There were fun vision boards for each character’s “look” and then there were racks and racks and racks of clothes – all with labels for what character the outfits are for and even in what episode(s). She specially chose 4 costumes to have out on display during our tour. Agents of SHIELD Costume DesignerHere’s a few fun facts that we learned about the costumes from Ann…

  1. The 4 costumes pictured above are 100% custom made.
  2. At least 30% of ALL the costumes you see on the show are custom made. That number depends on the episode and the specific character/plot needs. “it just depends on the needs of the character, ’cause sometimes you just can’t find it at Bloomingdale’s.”
  3. The silver sequenced dress above (May’s from earlier in the season) was made in less than a week!! Even crazier, there were 5 silver dresses total!! “May was fighting herself in the episode, so we had one beautiful one for May, then we had one that she could fight in, so we sewed stretch panels inside so she could fight and do all of her movement.  She had two stunt doubles and then Agent 33 was in one as well.” Holy cow! Can you imagine making 5 of those dresses in under a week?!?! Insanity!
  4. Every single person on the show gets dressed by Ann. Every single person on the show pretty much, whether they have one line or they have a big arc, they come in and I dress them all.”
  5. Inspiration is taken from the comic books, especially for established characters like Mockingbird and Deathlock!I always go to the source material, because I think it’s important.  I mean, these are established characters in the MCU and I want to respect that.  But at the same time, it’s about bringing  them into our world  and making it believable for the world of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

It was so cool to see all of this behind-the-scenes stuff and see what goes into making these MARVEL characters come to life on the screen. And, tonight, you can catch the latest from the MCU!
