A couple of weeks ago I shared some tips for cold & flu prevention. Part of a recommended 4-step process to warding off those nasty viruses includes "purify the air indoors". It was the only part of the process that we were missing. So, I was excited to check out the the Fellowes AeraMax™ DX-55 Air Purifier and see about clearing our air.
Fellowes Air PurifierWe've never had an air purifier before, so truth be told, I didn't really know much about them. Thankfully, we're a household that isn't dealing with asthma, serious allergies, or an immuno-compromised individuals. So, I'd really never thought about getting one. But, some studies show that indoor air can actually be up to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Plus, after a cough or a sneeze, some viruses stay suspended in the air for hours before landing on surfaces. Here in the dry, dusty desert we have another issue with copious amounts of dust! Our house gets SO dusty so fast. So, I was thrilled when this cool tech gadget showed up at our house a few weeks ago! Fellowes AeraMax DX55When the box arrived, I was a little concerned about the size of the purifier. But, it isn't too big at all. In fact, it fits nicely in some smaller spaces. The purifier is light weight and really easy to move with a handle right up top. Currently, ours is in our living room. But, I'd like to rearrange the toy nook to put it out in our family room (where we spend most of our time, the boys track dirt in from outside, and where are dog loves to curl up daily). Air PurifierThe Fellowes® AeraMax™ Air Purifiers use true HEPA filters that safely remove 99.97% of airborne particles, including viruses, germs, dust, mold, pollen, ragweed, pet dander and cigarette smoke. We haven't been using ours long enough to see any build-up on the filter, but the filter is easy to change. And, after a while, I'm hoping to see that it's pulled a whole bunch of dust out of the air! It is really user-friendly with a touch screen display panel, plus automatic sensors/indicators. The feature that amazed me the most though is how quiet it is! Had the blue lights not come on, I seriously wouldn't have known it was on. On the low setting, it is very very quiet.

So…so far so good. It's easy to use, unobstrusive, quiet, and is hopefully cleaning my air (and on a fun note, the boys think it looks a little like Eve from WALL-E 😉 ) . I don't have hard proof that it's doing anything yet. But, we haven't been sick with any respiratory crud (knocks on woods) recently, so I'll take that! And, I'm hoping that I'll have a less dusty room soon too!

If you want to check one out for yourself, the Fellowes AeraMax DX55 starts at $189.99 at BestBuy.com!

  1. It is just a room purifier and not a whole house purifier correct? Did it say how much area it does cover? Thanks.
