Tis the season for colds, flu, and stomach bugs! Yuck! I was a high school biology teacher and my husband is an immunology professor. Needless to say, he knows a lot about “germs” So, when we were contacted about taking the Bounty Ditch and Switch Challenge, we were interested in seeing the results! Nothing like a science “experiment” in our very own kitchen to pique the interest of science nerds! 🙂 The premise was simple…use a dishcloth for 3 days as we normally would around the kitchen. That dish cloth was then sent to the P&G lab to see what germs were found. So, what do you think…how “germy” is the kitchen? Check out this graph below! Germ levelsOh my goodness, ewwwwww! I’ve always heard that the kitchen sink can actually be one of the germiest places in the house, but wow! This is gross! The average kitchen dishcloth tested was dirtier than the average hotel comforter and tv remote! NASTY!!!!! Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) monitoring is what was used to check for cleanliness. With this type of cleanliness testing, results are meausred in RLUs (which stand for relative light units). So, the system measures the amount of organic soil (like food residue, dirt, pet dander, etc) that was on the dishcloth. So, how did our dishcloth do?

Our results were 6050 RLUs! Compared to the average of just under 20,000, that seemed pretty good! But, when I read that anything over 300 actually has the potential to spread germs, 6000 was rather gross!

So, to cut down on those icky kitchen germs, we’ve been using Bounty DuraTowel! These aren’t your average paper towels! The strong fibers of the towels have held up to some disgusting messes around here (I’ll spare you the details, but one two nights ago involved a diaper issue in a high chair. BLECK!)!Bounty DuraTowel

Bounty exposed my dirty dishcloth and showed me the cleaner way to clean with Bounty DuraTowel, the only cloth-like, durable paper towel that is clinically proven to leave surfaces three times cleaner than a germy dishcloth.* Find out more here!
