Getting Healthy… Losses, gains, & a new endeavor!

I didn’t start the New Year with any sort of specific resolutions or goals. But, it appears that 2013 might have a “getting healthy” theme around here. I recently shared some of the healthier lifestyle steps that we’ve been taking. What I didn’t tell you during that post is that I was participating in the FitFluential January DietBet. I’d never heard of dietbet before…have you? But, the competitive nature in me decided it was just the push I needed to be more convicted about making some healthy changes around our house, so I bet my $25 and signed up. FitFluential DietBetAnd, as you can see, A LOT of other people joined the dietbet challenge too. The pot was HUGE!!! And, I’m thrilled to say that due to an almost 10 pound weight loss, I did successfully win the dietbet. Yay for losing! That meant I split the pot with all the other winners–I won $44.65!! Sweet!

During the 28 days of the dietbet, I made some big changes:ย  Green smoothies almost every morning for breakfast, consuming way less carbs (especially cutting out a lot of processed carbs and actually eating mostly gluten free), eating LOTS more fruits & vegetables, snacking on high-protein foods, using My Fitness Pal (a free smartphone app) to track calories, staring back to Zumba again (just a couple of times during that time frame), and completing my first 5k —the Color Run! The weekend after weighing in for the dietbet, I completed my second 5k! This one was the LoziLu MudRun (more pictures & details coming soon!)

5k pictures So, all of those changes resulted in my almost 10 pound weight loss over 28 days. Nothing earth-shattering in terms of pounds lost. But, in terms of being & feeling healthier, the changes have been drastic. My joints feel MUCH better; I’ve had almost no bloating or gas; and the change in my abdomen (especially my flabby, beneath the belly button, postpartum belly) is amazing!! I (stupidly) didn’t take measurements before. But, I’d estimate that I’ve lost at least 3 inches or more off my whole stomach region. It’s been great! And, for the first time possibly ever, I feel like I’m just making a healthier lifestyle change, not just doing a “diet”. I love it!

And, to add to that excitement, I’m thrilled (and possibly a wee bit nervous) to announce that out of almost 500 applicants, I was chosen as one of the 90 Shaklee 180 bloggers. So, starting March 1st, I’m going to have a lot of support and help from Shaklee in my quest to be a healthier (and lighter) mama. It’s newest endeavor and one that I’m really excited about! So, I hope you’ll come back to follow my progress!

Shaklee 180

Disclosure: I was not asked to write this post by any of the companies mentioned above. However, as of March 1st, I will be officially participating in the Shaklee Corporation blogger program #Shaklee180 and all of those posts will be sponsored. I will be receiving free products, online support and incentives for participating. All opinions & experiences are (and will be) entirely my own. People following the weight-loss portion of the Shaklee 180โ„ข Program can expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week.

Congratulations!! I was one of the Shaklee Bloggers the first time around with the program and I LOVE it! I can’t say enough about how good it really is.

I look forward to following your journey!

Congrats on your weight loss AND running a 5k. I want to run one too but I have never been a runner. I just want to do it as a personal challenge. How long did it take you to get fit enough to run the whole 5 K? I would like to have a training schedule so I can do it before the weather gets unbearably hot. I did a boot camp in Jan and Feb (6 weeks) and we did run 1 mile. But that is a LONG way from 3.2.
    thanks

Thanks, Toni! I by NO means ran a 5k!! Lol! I just completed the 5ks! I can’t even run a mile solid. So, I’m a LONG way from running like that. But, for me, just completing a 5k (even if it’s mostly walking) was a big change for me! I can recommend the Couch to 5k program though. It’s great!

Congratulations! I’m so happy for you! I’ve heard of DietBet and think it’s such an unique and creative way to inspire people to lose weight. It sounds like a great challenge especially for those with competitive spirits and/or money motivated. I’m glad to hear you won!

Thanks, Tesa! Yes–I’m pretty competitive and money motivated in the sense that I don’t like losing money. Ha! So, DietBet was definitely good for me! ๐Ÿ™‚
