National CyberSecurity Awareness Month: LifeLock Review & Giveaway!

Every October 31st, children and adults get to put on costumes and pretend to be something else, just for one night. But some people would like to pretend to be YOUall the time! Criminals steal people’s identities every day.  A scary thought indeed!!

If you’re not in the spooky spirit, think about this: Did you know that October is also National CyberSecurity Awareness Month and National Crime Prevention Month? Have you noticed how much more often you’re sharing your credit card info online these days? And for that matter, how much more personal information you’re sharing online? Each year around the holidays most of us are doing a lot of shopping, booking travel arrangements, and celebrating the season by making a donation to a charity that’s dear to us. And more than ever, most of us are making those transactions online, via a credit or debit card.

According to LifeLock.com, “identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the nation. In 2010, over 8 million Americans fell victim to identity theft – that’s more than the entire population of the state of Virginia”. This is extra scary to me, as I live in a state with a very high incidence of identity theft.

Thankfully, LifeLock is there to help ensure that all of your information is safe & secure. They pledge to protect your information 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! Plus, they offer a $1 million guarantee should you fall victim while under their protection.

LifeLock has a variety of membership plans to choose from. I just got signed up with the basic LifeLock plan and it incudes all of this:

  • Alerts of potential threats–both credit and noncredit related
  • Online access to a personalized dashboard showing current threats
  • Relentless monitoring for exposure of your personal information
  • Member services with local phone support—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
  • Stolen or lost wallet remediation services to help cancel and replace credit and debit cards
  • Comprehensive recovery services if you become a victim of identity theft on our watch.

How’s that for extra peace of mind?  I think it is going to be great to have someone watching over my identity and letting me know of any threats or concerns! Would YOU like that extra peace of mind as well?

I think all of Lifelock services are amazing, but I appreciate the alert on unauthorized credit activity. I worry about that since I do a lot of online business.

I think the best part of Lifelock service is being alerted whenever there is any kind of credit activity!
