What a super fun & easy craft/treat project!! We made candy kabobs for Valentine’s Day at our MOPS meeting this morning! Seriously, how cute are these?!
Not only are these SUPER easy to make, but they could be adapted for just about any holiday or special occasion–birthdays, Halloween, 4th of July, Christmas, shower/party favors. At parties, it would make such a fun activity station–even little ones can do it (with adult help).
Materials:
- Variety of soft/gummy themed candies
- bamboo skewers
- clear bags
- ribbon
Directions:
– Choose a variety of candies–most used between about 10 & 15 per skewer, depending on candy size. – Insert candies onto the skewer, pressing the candies a little more than halfway down on the skewer. Alternate styles, sizes, flavors, and/or colors. Tips: Be careful with the bamboo skewers, the end is definitely really pointed! So, make sure you don’t poke yourself (and this of course, is what kids need the most help with). Also, make sure that the skewer only gets inserted about halfway through the top candy (so that the skewer doesn’t poke out the top).
– When the skewer is full, you’ll have something that resembles this:
– Insert each kabob into a clear plastic bag (one shorter than the skewer is ideal) and tie off with a ribbon!
That’s it! Easy peasy….and then you have super cute candy kabobs!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thanks for sharing! I might make some purple and green ones for Aurora’s party, but I am afraid the other preschoolers parents are going to hate me for getting their kids high on sugar,
Haha! Yah…the sugar high is the only downfall. 🙂 But, if the kids don’t eat it all at once, they’ll probably be ok! 🙂 Mine only had a piece or two and then were done with it for that time being.
So cute!! Great Job!
Thanks, Laura!
Another FABBULOUS Holiday treat idea. Lovveing them all. Thanks…
Thanks, Carol! Glad you’re enjoying! 🙂
so fun, and I like that you can put on what you like, the ones at the store are so costly too.
so so cute! too bad I didn’t find this before Vday … but I could do it for any occasion, right? As long as I”m prepared for my kids to (literally) be bouncing off the walls!
Thanks for the great idea!
Thanks, Sharon! Absolutely–I can see them going with just about any theme! 🙂
Hi Sara,
These are adorable! What kind of bags did you use? I know there are skinny bags to use on long pretzels, but these look longer than those, and not wide like many of the clear bags I’ve used for cookies and other items.
Thanks for the idea. It would also be cute if you stuck several of them in to Styrofoam in a cute basket, then put a plastic bag over all of it, then ribbons at the very top to seal it.
🙂
Oh my kids would LOVE LOVE LOVE those! I’d love to have you share this with our readers for our Fun Stuff Fridays link up! http://www.toysinthedryer.com/2012/02/fun-stuff-fridays-11.html

Sara, these are genius!! Pretty and tasty, too!! Love! Thanks for sharing at oopsey daisy!
Where did you get the long skinny bags?
Hi Riley–they are pretzel stick bags. You can usually find them at any craft store (Michael’s JoAnn’s, etc).
These are awesome! Where would I get those bags?
Hi Sarah! The bags are for pretzel sticks & you can find them in the baking/decorating section of just about any major craft store!
I just made these for my daughter to take to school for birthday treats! How did you keep the bottom of your stick clean? Mine is all sticky! And I will say yours is a lot cuter! Thanks for this cute idea.
How fun! 🙂 Not sure about the bottom of the stick. I held the bottom of the stick & pushed everything down, so I had an “non-sticky” portion.
Hope they were a hit! 🙂
Where did you find the sticks? I went to Michael’s and all they had were the non-pointing kind for cakeballs. I can’t imagine trying to shove this candy on a flat surface stick. Any suggestions ladies??
Thanks!
We actually used bamboo skewers like you would use for grilling kabobs. I found some last year in the grilling section at Kmart, actually. Lol! But, year round, I’m not sure!
Sara~ where did you find all the fun candy at? I have 32 kids to make them for?
Hi Katie! I actually am not the one who bought it for our group. But, I’d first try a store that has a good holiday candy section. Maybe something like Walmart or Target? Then if you have access to any stores that sell candy in bulk, that would be the best. We’ve got a candy store at a local mall. And, one of our grocery stores, Winco, has candy in bins. Good luck! 🙂
This is a great idea for kids – or valentines day! 😉
I love your candy skewers…would be a definite hit in my family! Thanks for sharing with me! XO, Aimee
Thanks for commenting, Aimee! 🙂
Where do you find those bags? Also, has anyone tried some method for getting rid of the pointy ends of the skewers once kabobs are assembled? Trying to be as safe as possible in a school environment. Thanks! Can’t wait!
Hi Stacey! The bags are for pretzel sticks. I believe they are from Michael’s, though you could try just about any craft store. Also, someone left a great tip on a pin of these on Pinterest…
Keep the end pointy for assembly, then just before putting the last candy on, cut off the pointy part. Haven’t tried it, but it could work. The only downsides I see would be the extra time or if the skewer splintered at all when you cut it!
Good luck!
Super FUN!!
Love these! My daughter made candy kabobs for a little business she had with our homeschool co-op a few years ago. They were one of the favorite treats that people bought. I love the Valentine twist to yours! So pretty and sweet. ♥
Thanks, Laurie! They certainly are fun! 🙂
Ok, I tried to make this last night and they did not work out well. The gummies did not slide very easily done the skewer, especially when i went to add more. Is there a trick to it or something I need to do differently?
Hi Brittni,
Not sure. They definitely are a bit hard to slide down the skewer, especially depending on what type of candy it is, the temperature, the skewer, etc. But, typically the end up looking ok in the end!
Maybe you could use a very light coating of non-stick spray (like Pam) on the sticks to help slide the candy on? Also, will the candy stay fresh, once it’s in the bags, if I want to send them to my college daughter in the mail? Love this pretty craft idea! Especially for Valentines!
