We’ve been taking some simple steps toward getting a bit more organized this month! As part of the pantry challenge, we wanted to get the pantry and freezer(s) better organized. Plus we have one little corner in the hallway that needed some serious help! After a trip to Lowe’s with just under $100 spent, we came up with some simple solutions!

First up, the “shoe corner”. When we decided on this house just under 2 years ago, we sacrificed some storage for location. Our laundry room (right inside from the garage) is very small–just enough space for the washer & dryer. I would LOVE a large laundry or mud room to put shoes, hang bags, etc. But in our house it just isn’t happening. And, we typically don’t wear shoes inside the house. No one really likes wearing them. Plus, I think it keeps the house cleaner to not be tracking dirty shoe bottoms all over the carpet! So, the routine has been that everyone in our family just kicks off their shoes right after coming inside. We have a tile hallway that leads from the garage & laundry room, then into the kitchen and family room. This little corner has become the shoe kickoff spot and it looked terrible!!

I didn’t want to completely change the routine (i.e. decide that shoes could no longer go there), but we needed something more organized. After browsing around Lowe’s, we found some great ClosetMaid options perfect for the corner there. After a little assembly, we now have a MUCH improved corner! See?! Now, we each have a bin for those shoes that we kick on & off throughout the day (like flip flops, slippers, etc). And, a place for Big Brother’s school papers and the diaper bag. A super simple solution that looks SO much nicer!!!

While we were at Lowe’s, we also snagged an over-the-door shoe organizer that is going to serve another purpose in the office &  wire rack perfect for the pantry door…Stay tuned for the pantry organization post coming soon! 1. You are motivating me to stick to one of my New Year’s Resolutions……clean out/ organize the closets! Something I’ve been putting off for awhile, but I’m going to get it done now!

  2. Our problem is toys! Everywhere I look are toys… toys … toys! I have 3 kids ages 7 (boy) 3 (girl) and 8 months (boy) for the 2 older kids I put all their toys in their rooms to help cut back on the over flowing baskets of toys but now they r just … Baskets of toys in their rooms. Our Hm isn’t big enough for all these darn toys. Lol no I’m not a toy hoarder either, I promise lol Plus the babies thing are in our living room so now its over cluttered. Plus imagine the bouncy chair, the jumper and a swing! So even if I don’t get the gift card what is a way all u mom’s keep toys organized in your home?

  3. What doesn’t need to be organized should be the question. Now it is a close tie between my office/craftroom/wine storage/dumping of everything space and the toy room.

  4. Do the kids actually take the time to put their shoes inside the drawers of that beautiful shoe cabinet or simply leave them on the floor in front of it (as I can only imagine mine will)?

As for the Lowe’s gift card give away, I need to reorganize the kids’ rooms DESPARATELY!

  5. I would love to use it to help my mom repair the flooring in the entry way which has all been broken and come up. 🙁

  6. We would love to further the garages organization as well as my craft area and the girls bedrooms, two girls and all their ‘things’ makes for interesting organizing issues.

  7. My bathroom cabinets need it bad,. I have started throwing away or getting rid of one item a day then will take the good items to goodwill each month

  8. I am repainting rooms and I am making shelves to organize items…it is a long process.
