I’m not sure if everyone would agree that this lives up to the hype of “BEST” homemade garlic bread ever – but everyone in our family sure seems to think so (and many friends could attest to it too)! πŸ™‚Β Best Homemade Garlic BreadThis recipe has long been a family favorite and always a part of our favorite celebratory meal– grilled steaks, salad, and this garlic bread recipe! I don’t know where it started; I just know it’s how my mom has made garlic bread for as long as I can remember. And it is SO good!Β French Bread Garlic BreadSo good! It’s also SO easy to make! The key is that you actually toast both sides of the bread. So, it’s nice and crunchy, yet still soft in the middle. You toast one side, And, not only does it taste amazing, but the whole house will taste amazing while it cooks!

For the rough recipe below, you can adjust ingredients to your taste and for how many slices you make. For garlic, you can use fresh, jarred, or garlic powder. For Parmesan cheese, you can use the powdered stuff or shredded. Both are perfect!

Here’s what you’ll need: (just general ingredients–amount will depend on how many slices you make):

  • french bread loaf
  • butter (usually approx 3/4 to 1 full stick for the whole loaf).
  • minced garlic or garlic powder (to taste – if you really like garlic, add a little more. Or go a little easy on it. Totally up to you).
  • Parmesan cheese (shredded or powdered)

Making Homemade Garlic Bread

Directions:

  1. Set the oven to broil (make sure that your oven rack is not too close to the top)
  2. Cut bread into slices about 1 inch thick & place on a baking sheet
  3. In a pan, melt butter (for this one sheet of slices, I used about 3/4 of a stick). Add garlic or garlic powder (I used one pressed clove & a little sprinkle of garlic powder).
  4. Place your sheet of bread slices into the very hotΒ oven. DO.NOT.WALK.AWAY (ask me how I know)! In fact sometimes, I stand there and leave the oven door just cracked open a bit.Β Β This doesn’t take long. As soon as they start to toast, remove the pan from the oven–let cool just until you can handle each slice. Leave the toasted side up and dip the bread (the un-toasted side) into your melted garlic butter. I just barely dip–NOT soak!
  5. Put slices, buttered side up, back on the baking sheet. LightlyΒ sprinkle each slice with Parmesan cheese (for this version, we like just the little bit of cheese flavor, not an ooey-gooey cheesy bread, though that is delicious too).
  6. Put them back in your very hotΒ oven and again–DON’T walk away! Watch as the parmesan cheese starts bubbling (mmmm) and the edges start to brown a bit. Then, remove immediately, serve warm & enjoy!Β Easy Garlic Bread Recipe

Mmmmmmm….fresh, homemade garlic bread that is not too greasy, not full of preservatives like the pre-made store bought kind, not too cheesy, and is just a bit crispy on both sides! It’s seriously SO good!!!

  5. I got here by googling “homemade garlic bread,” and I’m sure glad I clicked! This was simple and I made it as my lasagna cooled enough to eat. I did not walk away from the stove! I used dinner rolls that I had on hand. My kids and I loved it. We had a bit too much garlic butter left over, so I spooned it into little tiny serving dishes and the kids dipped their garlic bread into it. Who am I kidding–I dipped mine, too! Delicious. Thanks!!

    1. Thanks so much for commenting, Taniaa! So glad you stumbled upon it! Sounds like your garlic dinner rolls turned out super good! πŸ™‚ Hope you’ll come by again!
